I believe SSG Bellavia, the most recent recipient of our highest military honor, is the only living veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom to have that honor. The account of his personal combat in the book "House to House" is one of the most gripping descriptions of hand-to-hand combat I've read. For those who are not familiar with him, you may be interested to know he's a native of Batavia, NY. Edit: Wikipedia says he was born and raised in Buffalo. It's been quite a while since I read his book, but I'm pretty sure he was living in Batavia when he entered the service. Either way, he's a Western NY man. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bellavia

Bravery under fire is the true measure of one's honor, and duty.
