This team seems to have an On/Off switch that defaults to Off ... Not sure if it's due to over-confidence, or the youth of the squad overall - but we are just not good enough to turn it on when needed to pull out Ws. The Defensive Intensity needs to be ON - ALWAYS ! We need better production out of the 4 Spot as well ... Primarily on Defense - IMO. WE have 10 fouls to use at that spot between BP and JW. Use them all if necessary. Hack a SHAQ - No gimmes . That aggression level on D will carry over to all 5 spots. We will certainly need to bang it out with St. Louis on SAT to get that 4 seed. I agree also on Jaren fully taking on the Stockard role of last year - He is very close to that already. It will take pressure off of KYLE and make the opposing "D" play more honest ...

Starting four sophomores and a freshman, what were your expectations?

Agree with you Sip regarding youth and expectations.
This is just my opinion but we don't have a legitimate PF. I always considered both Winston and Planutis as wings and Dom as a combo 2-3. I am a Carpenter believer in that the kid can play the PF which I witnessed at Dayton. For those who scream about not knowing the playbook and defensive responsibility is that the PF is not that complex, allow the kid to learn the pace of the game on the floor, and tolerate frosh mistakes just as being done with Winston and AJ. You Can't play this game looking over your shoulder that you will get pulled every time you make a mistake. Those are growing pains with young players.

GOOD POINT bjif ... With Carpenter in the mix - we would have 15 fouls to give at that position. This is not to say we should put the opponent in the double bonus every game, but it would serve to spark our Defensive intensity at that position for sure.

Starting four sophomores and a freshman, what were your expectations? NIT. These guys have played plenty of NCAA hoops so that "young" excuse just doesn't cut it. People were excited about the Rutgers win but they are 1 - 8 away from the RAC. The biggest win Rutgers had was the Hall at the RAC and the two top scorers for the Hall weren't even playing. Kenpom - 118 NET - 115 Many people believe the Kenpom is the most accurate, but honestly I really don't know.

OKAY 2018 - How do you see the rest of the season playing out ? Call your shot.
I see a W over St. Joe's and barring a HUGE effort - a loss @ St. Louis (Bad match-up for us). Thinking that would land us in the 6th seed. A Win on Thursday and again on Friday over RI. Richmond in the SEMIs for another W and a meeting with DAYTON in the A10 Final.
Will need some BONA Magic for sure - Defense / Defense / Defense and a HOT HAND from Dom, Kyle, or Jaren will be needed.
GO BONAS - We got this ...

I, for one, am relieved, to see 2018 posting. I was about ready to ask the Admins to send out an "Amber Alert" for 2018. But now I just figured your parents must have had a ban on computer usage due to report grades or something.

Freshman and sophomores "playing plenty of NCAA hoops" is just not comparable to an experienced junior or senior. This year seems typical to the old adage of a young team will win a couple it probably shouldn't while losing a few games it shouldn't. That being said, there were problems yesterday that are concerning. AJ's being totally out of control on offense; DOM & JUSTIN with poor footwork on defense; OSUN in early foul trouble; having the same amount of rebounds as the smaller team you are playing against; OSUN taking too many charge attempts in road games;and far too many one and dones for this late in the year.

I think there is a glaring need for some frontcourt talent. I for one would have liked to have seen more of CARPENTER all season long. not at the 5 but at the 4.

I am baffled as to why Carpenter is not getting a shot. LaSalle PG Ayinde Hikim was a teammate of Carpenter at Mt. Zion. Carpenter was the leading scorer and leading rebounder for Mt. Zion. According to Verbal Commits, Ayinde received 2 offers with the other offer being a low major. Rob received 13 offers which included Tulane, Temple and 3 other A-10 schools. Ayinde has started 9 of the last 11 games for LaSalle, while Rob sits deep on the bench. So the fact that Ayinde, in 21 mpg, has averaged 5 points and 1 assist per game and shoots 40% from the field and 27% from three? On one of the absolute worst teams in the A-10. And since him and Carpenter played on the same Prep team last year, this is why Carpenter should get more playing time? Huh??

Yes.. carpenter should have played all year as much as possible, because he is 6’8”,and 215,and the team has lacked inside depth and strength. The horse is out of the barn though because the season is almost over. The question is not whether he should play. That was a season opening question. The question is will he be on the roster next year or will he have transferred out?

I don't know if Carpenter is the answer, unless he bulks up. But, we do need some beef at PF. Amadi, could have fit the bill. But, he just doesn't use his size effectively .
