The reason the 2016 team didn’t make it was because they lost to Syracuse. That was the reason. The Bonnies finished as the first team out of the NCAA because of the Syracuse loss. Syracuse was one of the six bubble teams to get in and they got the nod because of the head to head win over the Bonnies by 13 points. That bumped the Bonnies out of the field. If the team didn’t play Syracuse they get in and if they beat Syracuse like they did in 2018 with the Niagara loss then they are in safely. Can debate this topic all day, but from my perspective the reasoning for their tourney exclusion in 2016 was the late season LOSS at Lasalle (a team that had a 1-11 A10 record to that point) and the inability to get to Friday of the A10 tournament. Both were monumental fails late in the season. Perception DOES exist, "what have you done more me lately" also exists and those 2 losses the last 20 days of the season is was ultimately did them in. NOT a loss to a decent SU team in mid-November. And everyone says the Bonnies were the "first team out"....were they really? No one really knows. Game Day - Go Bonas!!! We do know that the Bonnies were the first team out because we were the number 1 overall seed in the NIT

Idle hands are the work of the devil, or something like that. With no game to occupy me I thought I would take a look at U of Akron basketball, who we hope to face Tuesday afternoon in Cleveland. It looks like the Zips will have one game under their belt. The are playing a D2 school right now, Cedarville University and the last I checked Akron was up 69-39 with about 10 minutes left. Hard to read to much into the first half box score, but it looked like the starters for the Zips played between 12-16 minuets with about 10 players all getting at least 8 minutes. Going through some of the Zips bios, it looks like Loren Jackson, a 5'9" point guard is their guy. Jackson was the MAC, player of the year last hear. Other than Jackson, it's hard to piece much together. A slew of jc and d1 transfers that I would guess, their bios said in some cases sitting out a year per NCAA transfer rules, but that may have been posted before the NCAA waived the year for so many transfers. They have a 6'9" Wisconsin red shirt transfer that didn't play much foe the Badgers. They've also got what looks like a Yousou type, a 7' center from Senegal who came out of the NBA Academy program there, he's a freshman and I don't think he was in the formation of players for today's game. I think that had at least one more D1 transfer, maybe more the guy that sticks in my mind was a Wake Forest transfer, but I don't recall he played much there. We can probably get a little better sense when the final box score is posted, but playing a D2 school, probably doesn't tell them much either. I thought I saw that Akron was picked third in the MAC preseason poll. So Jackson and a somewhat unknot cast are who we will face in Cleveland on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bonnies were the top seed in the NIT and the committee said they were the next team that would have been included. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_National_Invitation_Tournament#Seeds

One positive about this years OOC, will have less losses than any Mark Schmidt team.
I know that is a reach, but I am desperate for good news.

Looking for something positive to come out of the SFU cancellation, in the “Pause leaves Bona uncertain” article in the OTH a couple of days ago, Schmidt had expressed concern about the lack of practices that had been available in advance of that game due to the staggered nature of guys becoming available. So one positive is that since we weren’t on the road, presumedly that will give us several more full squad practices in advance of the new opener on Tuesday. I don’t think Schmidt was just blowing smoke; he was concerned about the team’s lack of practice together and game conditioning. Maybe that stretching things to find something to be positive about, I don’t know, but we might actually be a little better prepared to open Tuesday then we would have been Saturday. Tuesday evening may provide the answer. I am just anxious to see. We’re due a little luck here, aren’t we?

We need to schedule games on the fly. Both Syracuse and St Johns need make up games. I hope we can make it happen. I mean we can schedule a game with Miami OH or maybe a Stonybrook.
