Another story from OTH "SBU and its ties with the Steelers, Rooney family." In article all time NFL great Jack Butler shared his story of how Father Silas Rooney helped him to make it on SBU's football team and in becoming a Steeler. Father Silas Rooney was Athletic Director of Bonas and is younger brother of Art Rooney the owner of the Steelers. From article -- Arthur J. Rooney Sr., founding owner of the NFL team, was presented with an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree during St. Bonaventure’s commencement on May 20, 1973. -- Steelers’ training camps was held at Bonas from 1952-57. -- Butler, who passed away in 2013, played for the Steelers from 1951-59. -- At the time of his retirement, Butler ranked second in NFL history with 52 interceptions. JAck McGinley, Class of 1965 and former head of SBU Board of Trustees is part of the Rooney clan. His mom was a Rooney. Actress Kate Rooney Mara is also part of the clan.
