According to CHUCKIE MAGGIO, combo guard BRETT RUMPEL will be taking an official visit to BONA on June 8-9! 2022's don't take official visits yet I believe, perhaps there is more to the story maybe he's looking to enroll this fall.

Brett was the #1 NYS scorer at Seton Catholic this past season. 45.5 ppg, 4.9 assists, 11.3 rebs, 2.1 steals & .9 blocks. He was NYS #11 in rebs. The Rumpel family knows Bona well as several are Bona grads. His cousin Natalie Rumpel was the women's #1 singles player in 2004. In past years Bingo would run a bus load of fans to Bona. For years, Ed Rhodes (Bona 54) would organize these bus trips with a stop at the Burton. If BRETT comes to Bona there may be 3 or more buses needed SPIRE prep has him targeted for next season. Delighted to see he is visiting Bona next week. Would love to see him wearing the Brown and White! If you want to see the various ways that BRETT can score check out his 51 point game 3 months ago. Also his passing skills. youtu.be/MfnE29Pkr9ESince graduation he has impressed at City Rocks EYBL playing against much tougher talent.

Complete gym rat, fits Schmidt’s style of wanting guys who will live in the gym getting shots up and improving your game. I would rather miss with a Binghamton kid than a kid across the country. He’s worth taking the chance on because he’s going to take off if he goes to prep

He looks really awesome and I'd love to see him become a Bonnie - on a side note- I watched almost 2 whole minutes of his highlight video before I realized he was wearing a mask. I thought he had a really thick black beard haha

Okay, 45.5 PPG is an absolutely stunning number, and the rebounding, assists, steals and blocks per game numbers show he’s not just a one dimensional player, but 45.5 is really something. First, when was the last time we recruited someone averaging over 30 per game, or even 25? Second, is this production the result of him taking an immense number of shots? What’s his shooting percentages? Is he an efficient scorer? Does his team play in a quality league? I think I recall seeing video of him in a previous thread and he did not appear to be a pure gunner, and looked to be an all-around player and good team player. With those numbers and the local connection, he could be the BW’s most watched and anticipated recruit since who, Dom Welch?

With those numbers and the local connection, he could be the BW’s most watched and anticipated recruit since who, Dom Welch? He looks like good player and worth a shot, so to speak, for sure. But if you look at videos, yes, can shoot, but also gets a lot of points on drives vs. guys who look like 5'10 at best.... As for when last time got someone with very high scoring average, I don't know what Dom's was, but I go back to mid-60s when I watched John Hayes at Niagara Falls High School where he set all records for any top-tier WNY league, and held career average mark of 29 + that stood for decades if not still highest for top-tier. Of course, he came to Bona in 1965 and averaged 33 as a frosh...but he came out of a very tough high school league which I presume Rumpel's is not close to. Hayes would have been one of three greatest Bonnies ever absent that crushing knee injury. His first game as soph, after first injury and before second, he scored 26 points off the bench vs. Xavier in something like 24 minutes....listened to it in dorm with Don McLain on the radio. A week later saw him go down again at the Aud vs. Denver...sad. Still a friend.

ceharv...Here are BRETT's #s in his senior year shortened by the pandemic. 8 game stats
45.5 ppg on 53% FGs and 38% TREYS, 75% FTs. 30% of his points came from deep.
DOM's HS played against low skill talent as did BRETT's. But his #s were much lower. DOM relies FAR more on the TREY than BRETT who attacks the rim and gets to the stripe FAR more than Dom.
69% of DOM's shots are TREYS. They account for 76% of his scoring. He rarely attacks the rim (starting to it a little more). Last season in conference play he took only 14 FTs for 10 pts.

WGT posted "DOM's HS played against low skill talent as did BRETT's. But his #s were much lower." Another good comparison is Joe Girard, who played in Class B at Glen Falls. Brett has far better stats. He is bigger, stronger and a much better athlete. Verbal Commits has Girard as a 4 star recruit (signed with Syracuse) while Verbal Commits has Brett with just 3 low major offers. By the way Girard has started 58 of 60 games and averages 11.2 ppg in his first 2 years at Syracuse.
Brett Rumpel appears to be an extreme case of being over looked.

Schmidt already see’s potential in Brett’s game or he would not be spending money on his ‘official visit’.
He will get a chance to run with and against All-A-10 guards and a defensive specialist who last played in the ACC. He will be going up against two premium shot blockers when he goes inside.
Both Schmidt and Brett will know very quickly during those runs if he can compete on regular basis. Good luck Brett.

Didn't Pearl Washington avg. 40 pts a game in HS with our Elmer Anderson avg. 30 pts as his teammate?
