Yeah, I'll take a neutral site game against a top 15 team over Niagara/Canisius every single year.
Add in the fact the game will be on national TV in one of our biggest out of state alumni bases, and you can't beat that.

You have to contrast the nostalgia of a long valued rivalry with a wny neighbor with the possibility of beating an acc team nobody knows anything about, and has little interest in Contemporary values . Zzz. You mean an ACC team that used to be in the A-10?

Yeah! I had to look it up va.tech was in the A 10 for a cup of coffee.... 4 years. A southern team that decided they needed a different league profile. Somtetimes the turnstile is too fast. Where did butler go..we hardly knew ya. So now that I know more facts I still prefer Niagara As to a fan base down south.. I don’t know how to analyze that .

If Va Tech at four years is a CUP of coffee, Butler for one year is a SIP of coffee. Charlotte would then be a POT of coffee being an A-10 member for eight seasons.

I like the Canisius / Niagara rivalries more than most I think. But when you got a potential tourney team and its an either, or situation regarding them and a team that will raise your profile like Va Tech, at a neutral site, its a no-brainer. Sorry Niagara see ya next year - 1998 a young Tim Winn led Bonnies team let one slip outta the fingers at the RC by 1 point against Va Tech. It was a very entertaining game, although frustrating because there were a lot of turnovers and missed free throws on our end down the stretch

For one year we can afford to ditch the Niagara game. NU will likely to be ranked 200+.
We get a neutral site game with a top 10-15 team and people would rather play a putrid Niagara team?
My Lord, relax. They will be back on the schedule next year.

In august every team is a potential tourney team... that 1998 game is over 20 years in the rear view mirror.

You could set up a pretty good new basketball conference just with teams that were once A-10 members:
Villanova Pittsburgh Penn State West Virginia Rutgers Virginia Tech Xavier Butler Temple Charlotte

Niagara was awful last year and VT was very good. NU expected to finish near the bottom of the MAAC while VT is expected to finish at the top. For one year, why can't we ditch the NU game for a chance to showcase what could be our best team in 20-30 years?
