While recognizing the limitations of highlight vids, there can’t be a serious question that this kid has A-10 level talent. He is quick and shifty and knows how to get himself in a position to score, and has the touch to get the ball to fall. I presume there is no shortage of confidence in his ability to succeed at a high level. Also, he’s not just throwing up shots from deep, he’s a slasher who I would expect to spend plenty of time at the free throw line in the A10. Plus Binghamton may not exactly be our backyard, but I think it’s important that we land the NY state stars we target, and he’s one of them.

He takes it to the rim like Posley did. Perhaps he can't shoot as well as Posley but he's also bigger. Maybe Courtney Stockard is a better comp.

The kid has great potential and I'd love him in Brown and White, but let's not get out over our skis with the Posley/Stockard comparisons. Both came to us two years into their college career (Stockard sitting 2 more with injuries) and worked to advance their games. Let Rumpel play EYBL and at Spire against higher competition then turn him over to Coach Fisk

IF our our staff determines that BRETT would be a contributor what would be best for developing his game and ensuring he comes to Bona? BRETT playing at Spire as planned OR redshirting him this Fall.
If we were to red shirt him this Fall he would immediately come under the strength development of Coach Fiske. Spire has a fine strength program but no where near the equal of Fiske's regime.
He would have 1 year playing with elite A10 players in work outs, scrimmages and practices. I value that exposure to A10 talent over prep school talent
Participating in our practices for a year he would become well grounded in Coach Schmidt's often talked about extensive play book. At the end of our season I forget what color commentator said "Schmidt has more plays than Shakespeare."
Starting his playing year he would have developed a relationship with his teammates developing on court chemistry. He would be totally acclimated and transitioned into college life.
I see greater benefits to a redshirt over a year at prep. If he were to blow up at Spire there is no guarantee he comes to Bona.
To be determined is Coach Schmidt's value of his talent.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. We have transfers and recruits who have mentioned understanding they are buying in to a system and hope to be able to take over when the starters leave. You could literally have your second team be playing as a unit for a year playing against a top-20 team in practice every day and learning the system. That would make for a great transition when the starters leave. The Bonnies develop talent. I like the idea of players having time in the program. Thus is you you reload rather than rebuild. Of course this only works if they players buy-in and the staff believes they are the right players to be in the program for the long haul.

We are only comparing their style of game and NOT their talent. It is difficult to compare his shot to anyone as Brett makes all of his shots during his highlight video. All we can tell is Brett made some long distance shots and he has a nice looking shot. Wish I could see Brett's shooting stats. I do not know where, but I read Brett views himself as being a PG (I'll see if I can find the article again). At 6'3" Kyle is the tallest PG I can think of wearing a Bonnie uniform. Brett is even taller at 6'4" so this by it self makes Brett unique. If you check out some of Brett's dribbling drills, you see a player who has impressive dribbling skills. Even his highlight videos show impressive moves with the ball. Of course you have to consider the competition, but still it looks impressive. Like most highlight videos, you do not see anything with Brett's defensive skills. We all know a player doesn't see much PT with Schmidt if he is a poor defender. Personally I can't think of a Bonnie player who had a similar game to Brett.

Maybe similar to Mike Gansey in playing style and size? I don’t see him playing point guard in Schmidts’s system. If he does, another name would be T.J. McConnell, formerly of Duquesne, Arizona State and the NBA.
