JUSTIN JOHNSON of Putnam Science Academy has committed to Arkansas State. Bryan Hodgson, top recruiter for Nate Oats at UB and then Alabama, is now the coach at Arkansas St. He is a great recruiter and it will be interesting to see what he can do as a coach. Born at Olean General Hospital….

I gotta believe that coach Valentine will land a big piece (or two) to this puzzle in the upcoming weeks. A nice KYLE/OSUN type combo would be just what the doctor ordered ...

Among his skills, Jeremy – a Canadian native who played a season at Rhode Island – has shown great ability to stretch the floor with his shooting. Intriguing name. Foumena had some solid numbers at URI. Would ge a good complement to Brown.

I don't think they should announce the players they are after b/c I see a lot of colleges that seem to target the same players as Bona's. I bet many schools research what Schmidt does and try to steal the players Bona's is after. Sometimes, on verbal commits players that we know the staff is after are not listed and I wonder if they try to keep it on the down low.

Many players post their every recruiting visit and scholarship offer on their own social media pages. This falls under the blanket of “Too Much Information.” It doesn’t take a lot of detective work for opposing teams (or Bandwagoners) to learn what’s happening — but all coaches have more to worry about these days than spying on one particular opponent. Many programs try to keep recruiting on the down-low but they cannot control what a recruit posts or says to the media. Coaches have to worry about keeping their own players from hitting the portal … combing the portal for potential players … forcing out players they no longer want in their program … and going after high school players. The portal opens for an about a month so it’s a fire drill to research kids, get to know them, plan visits etc. in a short period. Oh, and coaches/staffs have to work with collectives and players’ NIL agents to lock in a recruit (negotiate) who is close to committing. It’s way way way more complicated for coaches than a few years. Agents/recruits could be negotiating with several schools trying to get the best deal. I don’t really see other teams having time to be concerned about who Bonas is going after unless that program already has the kid on their radar. Sure many recruiters get info on a “new kid” from social media — but you cannot be successful trying to steal players from SBU. Dealing with NIL agents is the biggest PITA for many coaches. I know this first hand. Anyone can register to be an NCAA agent. Professional sports agents need to be accredited by the league, highly trained and often have a law degree (or finance). College stars like Caitlin Clark (once they become famous) are represented by large agencies who focus on endorsements — but most NIL agents are family members, friends, AAU coaches and/or street reps who try to negotiate deals with collectives. See link below. What a mess. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/12/15/nil-unregulated-agents/

That's not stretching the floor with shooting. He shoots foul shots at 38percent. Not a shooter. He averaged 5 pts, 3.5 boards in 13 min per game. He's not stretching anything.

Jeremy Foumena had solid stats as a backup center to David Fuchs. Reminds me of Chad’s stats at Morgan. Chad’s stats were good stats for a backup, especially when considering his playing time. But if you look at Chad’s stats for 40 minutes they look impressive. With 12.9 minutes per game, Jeremy is averaging 5.3 ppg and 3.5 rpg. Over 40 minutes he is averaging 16.9 points and 10.9 rebounds, which is misleading (will not play 40 minutes). But over 30 minutes Jeremy is averaging 12.7 ppg and 8.2 rpg. With his time on the court, Jeremy out scores the starting center and rebounding is close to being identical. We discovered Chad’s conditioning was the reason for his reduced PT at Morgan. What is the reason for Jeremy's. His reduced PT was not because of his offense or rebounding. Probably needs more development with his defense, which happens to be a strength of Noah Brown. Jeremy has solid size at 6’11” and 235 pounds. He must have potential as Rhode Island web site states he chose RI over Georgetown. Was also recruited by Oklahoma, Indiana, Marquette and Xavier. Jeremy certainly looks like a really good developmental prospect for Schmidt and staff. Has 3 years of eligibility. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/rhode-island/men/2024.htmlgorhody.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/jeremy--foumena/7565

I would have loved Moses flowers to return! totally didn't realize he has another year remaining. Must have just gotten a waiver for his season at hartford with 9 games played. Would have started next season.
