I think its possible they just weren't that good last year. But they were supposed to be the top team in the A-10. Richmond was picked 1st in the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll. Bona was 4th and VCU was 9th. As we all know Bonnies finished 1st with 11 wins and VCU was a close 2nd with 10 wins. Richmond was 8th with a 6-5 A10 record. Richmond also had a bitter ending to their season losing their 1st A-10 Tournament game to Duquesne, who had a losing record at the time. gobonnies.sbu.edu/sports/m-baskbl/2020-21/files/2021_MBB_Preseason_Awards-Poll.pdf

That's laughable.

who cares..... I would rather fly under the radar and be the underdog we have always been. That fake recognition b/c we have been consistently good means nothing. Keep underestimating Schmidt and the team. It makes it more fun if you ask me.

Darn. We're out of the imaginary top 25. We shouldn't have lost those imaginary games

Imaginary top 25 yes, but its easier to stay in the top 25 than it is to get into it from the outside. And that will determine our seeding in the tournament.

Believe it or not I don’t want us to start in the top 25. I would love to see us in others receiving votes. In a twisted way I think it would help motivate this team even more. I think the team plays and Mark coaches better with that chip on their shoulder. I know the losing in the first round should be all the motivation the team needs but man I love watching them play with a chip on their shoulder.

If the really UGLY loss in the NCAA does not motivate them, they should not be on the court.

A TOP 25 ranking from the outset brings name recognition. I suspect that some of the 65 casting votes are not doing their homework, especially heading into the season ... Once the season starts - an unranked mid-major typically has to storm out of the gate to a 10-0 start or better with a BIG win over a P5 to break into the TOP 25. The longer a team is in the TOP 25 - the more Tournament Vote "currency" it will garner. Best to start there - and then stay there - for sure.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the recent posters commenting on the Andy Katz and ESPN (Jeff Borzello) way-too-early top 25 rankings? If so, that would not be 65 voters not doing their homework. It’s two columnists who have changed their opinions, whether due to lazy homework efforts or some other reasons.

You are correct 84. My post was a general observation tied to a team being ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll. Katz and Borzello typically do their homework - albeit with a P5 bias ... Bottom Line - It's a definite plus to be ranked TOP 25 in the AP Poll right from jump street.
