Introducing Pennsylvania Western University and likely soon, Pennsylvania Eastern U. The state has officially combined Edinboro, Clarion and the California University of PA into what has been named Western Pennsylvania University to be “located” at the sites of the three former separate schools. Many of the details are still yet to be revealed, but the first name was announced yesterday. The name for the combo of three eastern PA schools, Bloomsberg, Lock Haven and sometimes scrimmage rival Mansfield have yet to be officially revealed, but with yesterday’s announcement, I am betting on Pa Eastern U. Either way, the state has apparently committed to pouring in millions to upgrade the multiple campuses. All of this is an effort to increase or bolster enrollment by keeping tuition and costs down. So I think it is likely Bonas will face some increased local competition for new students.

Yet another bureaucratic snafu. No doubt the alumni base at these long standing schools with deep rivalry traditions will be infuriated. It will be fun to watch the blowback on the pointy headed administrators in Philly that came up with this mashup. Impact on Bonas....it may send us some offspring of disgruntled college alumni...good for us!

Skeller6 - in my 30 years as a WPA resident I have seen very little, if any, rivalry or traditions amongst alums of those schools. This is not what you may be used to with Bona, Niagara and Canisius, or Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia where there are deep seated rivalries amongst schools that for some reason can’t get together to play each other even in hoops but particularly in football (which is more understandable given the limited number of OOC games available every year). And whether it is a snafu or not will be determined by whether these schools survive, which was in serious doubt if some type of bold move had not been made other then throwing in more of my tax dollars to support them.
