Not surprised. It is bad. Medical transport teams are on high alert all over western Pennsylvania to transport people to hospitals with beds. I just came from a local hospital and the good word is they anticipate the peak in mid-January. Let’s hope so.

Cattaraugus Co has one of the worst positive rates in nys...Cornell has just closed its campus The county has just notified they will NOT enforce the governor’s mask directive IF THERE ARE COMING HOME GAMES IN Allegany that’s what the local situation is right now.

I hope our guys can get through what it potentially a cesspool of COVID while at the Charlotte event. 8 teams and mostly all from low vax regions (including ours, unfortunately). Yikes.

Is a normal season in jeopardy? I can see big wave of cancellations coming soon. It’s too bad for this senior class they haven’t really gotten to play a full season since their freshman year.

I have been worried about this for months. On the positive side, students will be or soon will be on break. The more metropolitan areas of the immediate Charlotte area is over 80%. The counties that surround Charlotte are at about 73%. That is 30-40% greater than the areas with in a 50 mile radius of OLEAN.

I am vaxxed (and boosted), but it's becoming increasingly clear that vaccination is not a "silver bullet" when it comes to controlling the spread of COVID.
With that in mind, maybe some of you can get off your high horse and stop preaching about vaccines (and whatever other protocols you might think are needed). Regardless of Vaccination levels, COVID is going to be around for a long time (much like the flu).

Regardless of Vaccination levels, COVID is going to be around for a long time (much like the flu). Go Bonnies! First, vaxxing does help slow the spread but obviously does not prevent.
Second, being vaxxed and especially vaxxed and boosted drastically reduces your chances of getting seriously ill, or ending up in ICU.
Third, it makes a mammoth difference in chances of perishing, as every expert, every hospital, every doctor will tell you.
Fourth, the selfish unvaxxed (and those who ignore other protocols) are causing a massive crisis in hospitals across the country, overstressing doctors, nurses and other personnel--and leading to those checking in for other issues finding no beds and strained treatment, along with no visits from loved ones and etc. This cannot be understated.
And as I noted weeks ago, and others this week, Cattaraugus and Allegany are still among the hardest hit in state for Covid cases and death rates. While some here claim, well, it's just the elderly, in fact in the past week or so Cattaraugus has seen the deaths of those 37, 41, 47, and several in 50s and '60s.

gregmit h: u nailed it! Dont drive your car into a tree because there is literally no room in hospitals as the unvaccinated suck the system dry.

I wouldn't disagree with any of that. Doesn't change the point of my post... Early indications are that the vaccines lose nearly all of their effectiveness (when it comes to stopping transmission) with the Omicron variant - which looks like it will be the dominant variant sooner rather than later. This isn't Polio. It can't be eradicated. Hopefully future variants will not be as deadly. Either way, it's going to be something we are living with for many years. I sure hope that doesn't mean we're going to go around judging each others choices and smugly shaming people. Those at high risk can take whatever precautions (vaccines, masking, distancing, avoiding crowds, etc.) they deem appropriate. If your point is primarily about overtaxing the medical system because of the increased level of illness that is likely for those that get COVID without being vaccinated, it is a point well taken. That said, it's a slippery slope. Are you in favor of banning fatty foods? Limiting the size of sugary drinks? Dropping the speed limit to 30 mph? Bottom line, nobody likes being preached at. More importantly, it's not effective. Give it a rest. This will be my last post on the issue, as I'm sure we could go back & forth forever - and nobody wants that on a basketball fan board. Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy, HEALTHY 2022. Go Bonnies!
