ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Sophomore Tyler Relph has been suspended indefinitely from the men's basketball team by Director of Athletics Dr. Ron Zwierlein for violating Athletics Department code of conduct and team policy.
His decision to suspend Relph, Zwierlein added, was independent from the University's internal processes.
Men's basketball head coach Anthony Solomon, who is out of town, said, "I support Ron's decision. I will address the issue once I return to campus and have additional information. In the meantime, the University's Office of Student Life has a due-process procedure in place to handle situations of this nature."
Students' rights of confidentiality prohibit further comment on the matter.
Relph, a guard from Victor, N.Y., transferred to St. Bonaventure last summer from West Virginia University. After sitting out the past season per NCAA transfer rules, Relph will be eligible to compete for the Bonnies in 2005-06.
I heard that relph was the player who got picked up for the dwi?
What does all this mean

a very hard lesson to learn....people just need leave their cars at home...when even there is the slightest chance of "socializing".....a $5-10 taxi ride or an 20-minute walk home is far cheaper and presents less headaches than the trouble and hassle he has now....
it's a shame and hopefully no one was hurt or no property damage was done...I feel bad for the guy but it could also serve as a wake up call....

I don't know the facts, but please remember these are college kids. Good kids do stupid things. It is part of growing up. I just hope the University selects an appropriate punishment that helps Tyler to become a better person/teammate, and not a punishment that ruins his career. I remember the Tim Winn incident from several years back. I was an ugly ordeal, but it was handled correctly and life moved on.

Well certainly an inconvenience as far as the basketball team goes it probably will result in a maximum of 5 game suspension. This makes the signing of Terron Diggs even more important. I know 3 people who have got DUI's in the past 2 years. All of them had to pay significant fines and attend ARD classes along with a suspension of their drivers license. It will certainly be an expensive and embarrassing lesson to learn. My hope is that he does learn his lesson. I am in college, college kids do stupid things... there are few exceptions to that rule. Fortunately no one was injured or hurt in the incident. I hope that he takes a look inside himself and comes out of this a leader. That is what this team needs now.

i think that it was a very stupid decision on his part. Why would you jepordize your scholarship. I was surprised that he did do it i mean since when he said at Randy's Up the River for the coaches show that he was anxious to get out on the court, so why would he do that? I think St.Bonaventure is cursed, lost to kentucky in double overtime in the tournament, lost to syracuse in the nit and they were really good that year, the big scandal, that guy comminting suiciced, the past two seasons record, and now this happedn with tyler relph and it had to happend right when things were starting to come together for them too.......something is hurting bonnies!
