Hoping to take a road trip at the end of June.....the destination will be Coach Solomon's basketball camp. Lot's of business obstacles to overcome, but fingers crossed we'll be there and my son will get a good workout at the camp. He's doing the camp at Bona's and UConn in back to back weeks.....hopefully he will still love basketball after this....at 14 he needs to see how he stands against the better talent (also as a parent I have to see how he does).
It's amazing to hear the dreams of a 14 year old. The realization of what it takes to attain the highest levels has not taken hold, but it is also great to see his optimism. He practices every day (he's also playing LaCrosse), but it is not enough. As a parent I will help him achieve his dream, and his fallbacks. Hopefully at these camps we can both become more realistic.
My scouting report: At 5'9", 160lbs, muscular, strong, good jumper, fast, quick hands, terrific driver, athletic, averaged 17.5 ppg on his middle school team.....played mostly the 3, understands his lack of height will keep him in the backcourt. Has to improve his blocking out, intensity, long range shooting, needs to improve his right hand. (left handed). Has not played against good competition.
I will be on campus from the 29th of this month through July 2nd. Will post input on the team....most if not all the players will be on campus. Fox, hope to see you, I'm staying at the Country Inn

Frank: I'm going to just miss you. Am playing tourist in the Northeast in July with my brother and we will probably be around the campus about July 20 or so. Oh well, one of these days. Sounds like you have a lot of b-ball coming up. Good luck to your son. Take care. Jim

As a coach and teacher, I never heard you once mention his grades and/or effort in school. These are far more important than his hoop skills. Also, what kind of relationship does he have with his teachers? Is he considered a "good kid" or does he have behavioral problems?
I think in the long run, these are the issues you should be concerned with. Too many parents and kids have "Hoop Dreams" that never pan out. Make sure he's got his academics in place.
Also, don't push him too much. Too many parents think their kids are D-I or pro talent, but in reality they're not even close. Be realistic in your expectations and the emphasis you place on basketball for him (and yourself).
