Olean is a Wonderful place to live, that's why I am here. Fact remains is the City has lost thousands jobs and people over the last 20 years along with craftsmen. This is my opinion. I want to see the 2500 jobs that was lost at Dresser, return of the 3 shifts at the Tile Plant the return of AVX on Seneca and all of those over businesses that have moved on. It's so nice to see so many passionate Oleanders. Bring back the Central Hotel, The Brown Bear, The Wooden Nickel and The Pickenny Thanks Guys please unruffled your feathers. No one cares about your opinion

There is A LOT of good stuff happening back home. Farmers Market and concerts in Lincoln Park bring people in droves. Friday nights always special w folks going out to eat. Old businesses leave and new ones enter, that's capitalism. Olean still has the rails to move freight. But there is one constant for which we can all agree...Bonas. Olean has some great restaurants for a small city, we really are blessed. Jamestown and Erie both I don’t think have as many good… locally owned… restaurants

Yes, NYS is a socialist basket case.....and their is no doubt that this is a contributing factor to the decline of the Olean/Allegany area and WNY in general.
Whether is was the neo fascist ban on mass attendance during the phony pandemic in clear violation of the First Amendment, the passage of the Unsafe Act in clear violation of the Second Amendment, the passage of green communist legislation to ban gas stoves, gas furnaces, gas and diesel cars, Suvs, and trucks and school buses, the passage of no bail laws which deprived town, village and city court justices of the ability to set bail in many criminal offense (which has led to a massive increase in general crime including retail theft, car theft, car jacking, rape, homicide, armed robbery, drug dealing), this state is on the highway to hell........
While the Olean/Allegany region is still a beautiful place to live and work and practice our faith, it will not be for much longer as the state is now run by a socialist cadre of radicals from NYC who are anti Christian/Catholic to the core.........even while we have a governor who is a supposed Catholic and a graduate of Catholic University in DC (one has to wonder what she actually learned at that great institution after she pushed for the most aggressive abortion murder of human beings legislation in the nation, legislation which includes abortion scholarships of all things under God!)

Skeller6: To be fair, New York State has been making foolish decisions since about 1957. It had truly been the "Empire State", with the motto "Ever Upward". In 1957 it was decided to build an airport in Ischua. This was just at the beginning of the jet age. The runways were too small to handle commercial jets. Many in Olean argued to improve the road to the Bradford Airport at Mt. Alton, which turned out to be the better alternative. Since then, the only wise decisions made by NYS have been the 1980 Olympics and the new Buffalo Bills Stadium. In spite of it all, Olean and the farms in Cattaraugus County are still nice. Bonas' is the gem of the area.

Its really a shame that state leaders have failed upstate so badly, I clearly remember the attempt to place industrial wind towers in the vicinity of campus, a move which would have destroyed the natural beauty of the area, and replaced it with those horrendous, ugly foreign made wind towers........luckily the region rose up as one to reject this idiotic idea.

No, I think in this case politics is appropriate - we are talking about the long-term sustainability of the university as a "sister" school has closed. Politics as they relate to Olean and Allegheny need to be viewed with an unvarnished lens. While we had a great class last year future success is not guaranteed. I know many, many people moving from New York including my nephew a Bona grad who has had enough. The Northeast, while not in peril, has tremendous challenges related to the issues noted above and we cannot bury our heads in the sand - the future of the University is at stake.

Went to my grandson’s high school graduation in South Carolina and one young lady is going on to college in Chicago for Drama Classes and except for the Valedictorian, who will be attending Georgetown, all the other graduates will be attending Southern schools, not a single one to the Northeast.

And to think Sip those decisions were made before our disgraceful governor (the wicked witch of the east) has decided to explore the possibility of housing migrants in college dorms. While that idea is utterly preposterous why wouldn't they have thought of that to help our homeless issues? Obviously, they consider migrants more important than our own citizens. Pathetic.

Not too worried about Olean ,nys, or Governor Hochul. Every government an every politician makes mistakes and errors in judgment...also not worried about immigrants... practically everyone has immigrant forbearers.p

Quite frankly this state is in a deep condition of peril, families are leaving and with that the potential to enroll their students at Bonas, yes its a real problem for the short term, even though we have had tremendous success under the leadership of DePerro and Zimmerman and hopefully Gingrich too (although I worry about his DEI background, which is at its core socialist and anti Christian/Catholic).
A note here for those who dwell outside of the WNY, since last week 7 WNY counties have declared states of emergency since the Governor threatened to move illegal alien criminals (if you cross the border without a permit you are violating the US code and are a criminal) from NYC to upstate lands.........if that happens there will be an explosion of public discontent not seen in WNY since Governor Mario Cuomo attempted to place a radioactive waste dump in Allegany County without any local permission (I will never forget the sight of hundreds of armed citizens and farmers facing off against dozens of state troopers in riot gear near the blockaded Canadea Bridge over the Genesee River......the Governor backed down and quickly too in face of the possibility of an armed citizen revolt).
Hopefully this Governor does not make the same really dumb mistake..........stay tuned sports fans........

Governor Hochul just announced that she is shipping thousands of illegal alien criminals to Erie County (seven other WNY counties have states of emergency barring their entry)..........all will soon be on the welfare rolls in that county eligible for food stamps/SNAP, medicaid, housing allowances, transport and free drugs of all kinds.......and you wonder why families are leaving high tax NYS....are you kidding me.....oh by the way, none of the these aliens will be enrolling at Bonas or Medialle either.........LOL

Maybe they can use the dorms at Medialle for housing New Americans. The term "New Americans" was coined by former Governor of Maryland, Martin O'Malley. That is the term continuously used in the State of Maryland. Medialle may be able to get Federal funding, maybe reopen after the crisis.
