Thank you for the update. We are thinking about your dad and he certainly is in our prayers. He was one of my heroes growing up.

Here’s one for the what-if crowd:
John only played five games as a sophomore. He was eligible for a medical redshirt but for whatever reason they didn’t pursue one for him. If they had … he would’ve been a part of the Final Four team. And there’s no telling what that might have meant.
I asked him about that once and he said he really had no idea why they didn’t get him a redshirt but as the wheels started spinning he finally said, “That would’ve been something, eh?”

Worrisome update just now from John's daughter. If you have any success stories I will forward to her. *** Rehab started out fairly good, but we’ve had some set backs to deal with, mentally and physically. Mentally, he is not doing good at all…if any of you have any success stories or advice to share, it would be greatly appreciated and I will share every one of them with him.
Physically, his heart rate is slow, and it’s a struggle to stay awake, and to keep up with the eating and staying hydrated…which I think is holding him back from being able to participate in therapy. Initially, he was having great progress and was able to walk some (with a walker) and even wiggle his fingers. The last two days have been a struggle though. I finally get to fly down tomorrow to be with him for a week (after changing my flight a couple times), along with my oldest daughter, and together we hope to monitor, encourage and guide him every day! Keep the prayers coming, we still desperately need them!🙏🏻❤️

One year ago my sister suffered numerous strokes that greatly affected her speech and movement. Over the course of the year she has improved dramatically. We attribute that to lots of prayers. I pray for a similar outcome for John. The road back has ups and downs and a challenge for John and loved ones. Prayers are with him from many people.

Update from John's daughter Colleen. ____
Update: my daughter and I finally arrived yesterday to be with my Dad, and it was a much better day! He was much more alert, participating in his physical therapy, stayed awake most of the day, and ate better and drank more than he has been! He can bend his leg, move his hand and he even LIFTED his arm some! His heart rate is still on the low side, but better. He wants OUT of rehab (mainly the hospital bed), so we are going to endlessly work with him to make that happen sooner than later! Keep the prayers coming, they ARE working!!!🙏🏻

are there any updates on our hero JOHN ? Yes, his recovery and rehab has been up and down, but his daughter and granddaughter have been there with him at rehab facility and he is doing a little better. They hope to get him home (Florida) this weekend. As a very active guy he is very bummed about the partial paralysis and then there is odd thing of not having peripheral vision to the right. As you know, improvement can take time (or not actually arrive), but in meantime depressing period. But he has wife to help and other family. Latest from daughter:
There is still a long and hard road to recovery, but I am totally optimistic that HE CAN DO IT!!! Keep the prayers, encouragement, success stories and cards coming…they are really doing the trick!!! John Hayes 78 Jacaranda Dr Safety Harbor, FL 34695

Recovery from strokes is often a step forward step back process that is hard on John and loved ones. I feel his recovery is promising and no doubt prayers are helping in this process and emotional support.

anything new with JOHN'S health ? from his wife today:
Update on my husband, John, for all our family & friends… He was in the hospital for 5 days, rehab for 3 weeks & now home for one full week. In-home therapy has begun. He came home last Wednesday & someone has been here every day so far. He looked so good today I had to take his pic. We had his first Dr appointment yesterday. Let’s just say it was challenging but we made it. When the physical therapist is long gone he continues to do additional exercises at my urging. Keeping him hydrated so he will have the energy to stay alert is still tough but he is trying. The doctor advised having an IV at home once a week. Yay! He is making progress…not like fast food progress, more like an Italian 7 course meal …a little at a time. Thank you so much for all the endearing cards, thoughts & prayers. Love to all

Wonderful news on John's progress. Prayer is powerful and with John's perseverance great things can be accomplished. Helps put our angst with Bonas 50 pt game in perspective.
