Mason started strong but is on a three game losing streak in league games, the last two on the road, at Richmond and at GW, so they were 13-2 before the last three losses., which includes a home loss to VCU. I haven’t watched them play or looked into their stats so I will leave it to someone more knowledgeable to provide an analysis of what they’ve been doing right or wrong so far this year, or who to watch out for tomorrow afternoon.

Of any game the rest of the season, aside from Dayton.....this one concerns me.
Need to find a way - any way - to get this one.
Go Bonas!

GM last game started 4 guards and 6-9 225 AMARI KELLY, so you would think SCHMIDT’s early game plan would be the same as the RI game of pounding the ball down low to CHAD & NOEL.

Actually we built the big lead first 5 minutes or so by NOT (for a change) pounding it in to Chad and Noel. Instead got everyone involved outside, cuts to basket, running more. Seemed like new game plan actually and wonderful. Banks came in and drove and dished. End of the half and all of second half pounded it inside, got boring again but effective, passes came inside and stayed there, and less outside excitement until Pride hit his three 3s....

I'm with you there Mitch - Up tempo starts on the Defensive side of the ball. Come out with that same intensity every game and that is our best IDENTITY. Halfcourt sets are still part of our arsenal, and become much more effective with a lead - grinding the shot clock down. Opponents overplaying passing lanes - taking chances and getting burned by backdoor cuts, crisp ball movement, and penetration for a nice dish or a blow-by finish.
The IRON 5 perfected that style at their peak. This group is still getting it dialed in. The Rhode Island game should give us some confidence and momentum heading down to George Mason.

I am not convinced that the start of the URI game and our offensive explosion was the result of a new game plan as much as it was the result of our defensive intensity and URI turning over the ball and giving us quick opportunities on the offensive end which we took advantage of. Once URI stopped giving the ball away we resorted to pounding it inside to Chad and Noel with success. I expect us to pound it inside particularly if Mason doesn’t have a quality back up 5 who can defend. If we can get their best Center in foul trouble in the first half, that will open up our offense everywhere and put them in big trouble. I suspect that will be the plan and I think Chad and Noel will attack with confidence, hopefully sending Mason back to the bottom half of the standings.

I watched GM play and beat St lotus . GM is on a three game losing streak. we play them on GM's home court - not good.
These fine young men will need to step up there game playing tough defense, ponding the boards and out scoring GM all game long.
GO BONNIES

The Patriots started hot at 13-2 and 2-2 in conference play but come off 3 conf losses to VCU at home and Richmond and GW away. Their NET at 85 is due in large part to their D which is nationally ranked #13 FG% defense. Hall 6'7" is #8 scorer in conf play at 18 ppg and is #1 conference rebounder grabbing 9.3 this season. We've had 2 common opponents VCU and Richmond. They lost both and we split. They go 8-9 deep to our 10. Mika looked OK to me after his injury in our blowout win. I expect he will play and possibly LUC. Strange to see not one Bonnie in the top 25 players of playing time. Can't remember the last time we saw that. No one is playing more than 32 mins. And only boyhood friends CHUCK and MIKA are above 30 mpg.
They are #1 REB margin (+5.6) to our # 6 (+2.6 rebs). HALL is the best rebounder in the conference grabbing 9.3 a game. He is also their top scorer and 7 in conference (18 ppg).
We are better from deep #3 TREY % (.378) to their # 11 (.345) and defend the trey better (#2 @ .306) to their #11 (.345).
We are starting to see why CHUCK was so impressed with PRIDES's play during the summer in the RC.
He has played well all season but in our 4 conference games he is really turning it up. I predict he will meet the high expectations some had for him.
Over the past 4 games he has team best 17.8 ppg (#8 in conf), 55% FGs, 67% TREYS (12-18) #3 in Conference, 83% FTS, 7.5 rebs (#6 in conf), & by far team best A/TO ratio of 3.3. 2nd to Barry in steals. He is # 6 in the nation with 6 TOs in 416 mins. His leadership in huddles is impressive.
Following our 99 points against URI we will find GMs defense far tougher. Coach Curran has Mark's play book.
A tough road game where hopefully our D will propel our offense.

For in bound plays and such, Schmidt supposedly has a deep playbook. This is the time to use that cause Curran will obviously have them coached up on the most frequently used sets. Dust off some plays you haven’t used in eons and see if Curran remembers

Every team/coach has film on the SBU and understands our offensive tendencies. The opponents who beat us or challenged us defensively this season are the ones with guards who pressured the heck out of Mika and our ball handlers in the half court (FAU, Richmond, Akron). We averaged 56 ppg in those 3 games. They also caused us to turn it over and have long scoring droughts.
When we cannot start our offense within 35 feet of the basket we are not effective (like most teams). We have trouble getting the ball into Chad/Noel. We don’t get open looks at threes. Sounds like GM is solid defensively and could cause the same issues … unless our coaches and guards have progressed.
Banks especially was super effective at beating Rhody’s on-ball pressure, getting into the paint and making several excellent assists. MAW was solid as well. He, Pride and Banks combined for 16 assists.

Are these the same experts who had us as 10 point favorites over Fordham?
