ASSA is a good TREY shooter (.444 last season). His strength is catch and shoot even with someone in his grill. He rarely shakes a defender to create an open look.
With the exception of a 6 game stretch, when he shot well, he has struggled this season. Since his 4-5 TREYS and 5-7 FGS at VCU 3 weeks ago he has shot 5-24 TREYS (21%) and 12-37 FGs (32%).
ASSA 26.2 MPG, 6.7 ppg, 39% FGs, 31% TREYS, 5.4 Rebs, 1.2 A/TO Ratio, 6 Blocks, 22 steals
BARRY 18.8 mpg, 3.3 ppg, 56% FGs, 25% TREYS (4-16 he should shelve that shot for now), 5.5 REBs, 2.5 A/TO, 10 Blocks, 24 steals
IS ASSA's 3.4 more pts a game, playing over 7 mins more a game than BARRY worth it?
BARRY is better on D, rebounds better and has sure hands with the ball while getting others involved. His 2.5 A/TO ratio is very impressive, essentially matching MIKA's 2.51. LUC is 1.5 A/TO Ratio.
Missed it watching game live but in the replay he showed a great no look pass to DARYL for a wide open TREY in front of our bench. No one rebounds and hits an open shooter beyond the arc faster than BARRY.
Coach Schmidt values his talents and contributions. In spite of the scoring by DARYL, MOSES and CHAD in the Joes win he called BARRY his MVP of the game.
Lets see if he cuts into some of ASSA's mins UNLESS he shows us the .444% TREY shooting from his freshman year.

Nice to see Barry getting his deserved minutes and at the expense of Assa. I wish Assa could incorporate Seth Curry's release. It takes Assa way too long to get his shot off, frequently blocked or altered by his defender. Barry has worked really hard on his shot and his form has improved greatly. i have no problem when Barry does take a shot. I'd love to see him post his man down low, because I don't think any defender can jump with him and a nice soft hook would do this team wonders. Can't depend on our guards shooting as good as they did vs. St. Joe's and it was previously stated in another thread that the St. Joe's coach isn't big on defense. However, I did watch a nice victory by the Hawks over Villanova earlier this year. Would love to see Barry take it to the hole and elevate for a soft floater. We don't have that shot in our teams arsenal, but i believe Barry could provide it.

I think Barry is starting to believe the best place for him is down low on offense and not hanging around the 3pt line. Love to see Schmidt runs some plays where Barry and Chad are running picks for one another.

Seems to be the love/hate guy around here. Prior to the year starting, I’ll admit that I didn’t think he’d have much of a role on the team this year and even feared he’d be a transfer candidate come the off-season. Like most of you, his severe limitations offensively were a chief concern. Clearly you couldn’t play him at the 3 over Pride, Flowers, etc. Then I also thought he lacked the upper body strength to play the 4. Maybe I’m overcompensating now, but I was completely wrong. He’s not only been my biggest surprise this year, but might even be the team’s most improved player (him or Venning). I wouldn’t bet that Barry will ever lead a Bona team in scoring during his time here, but an incredibly valuable piece — particularly for a team full of shooters. According to KenPom, look at these advanced numbers: 26.9% defensive rebound rate. That’s 24th in the country. That’s also the highest for any Bona player for as far back as KenPom data goes (01-02 season). Only Shoon (So-Jr seasons), Youssou (Sr season) and Andrew (Sr season) are even close to that percentage in our last 20 years. 4.1% steal rate. That’s 45th in the country. 1st for us. 3.5% block rate. 330 in NCAA, 2nd for us. (Venning) 9.8% O rebound rate. 246 in NCAA, 2nd for us behind Brown. And an O rating of 125.4. 125 in NCAA The O rating, admittedly, is a bit inflated because of the talent around him when he’s been on the floor. But it’s clear that his impact is being felt on that side of the ball as well, even though he can’t really be counted on to score. This kid has to play more. I’m really excited to see him and Assa on the floor together next year, but until then, I’m hoping for more Evans than Assa at the 4. I agree, I thought barry was going to be the one to get lost in the shuffle. However, he is seriously the most improved player. Good for him for his hard work and not quitting. He's got heart and ability.

I hope when everybody goes to bed tonight and this offseason, you say a prayer that Barry Evans stays at St. Bonaventure. That’s how important this kid is to our future. I think he’s ready to take a HUGE leap as an upperclassman. He showed his versatility today in the 2nd half. He had a 7 point spurt filled with blocks, rebounds, threes, and a soft touch. I hope he will be a 4 year Bonnie and leave as one of the greats. We all know he can wreak havoc on defense and the glass, but it’s his offense that excites me. He has point forward abilities and really excels in transition.
I know there’s a lot to be down about right now, but Barry is a bright spot.

Yeah, Most players at Bona's will not be going anywhere for NIL money. They may leave due to playing time etc. Luckily St Bonaventure recruits underrated talent and the type of players who really aren't going to get a big NIL deal unless they really develop. Barry is great- and he's been a pleasant surprise but the only way he leaves is for playing time. It won't be for NIL money.

Hoping for a LaDarien Griffen type progression from Freshman to Senior year for Barry. Next season should be a big year.

I hope you are correct, but with the portal so wide open I am not sure we’re going to see many more LDGs.

Barry’s issue right now is Barry and his confidence. I remember a play from yesterday. Barry had scored his nine points and the team had stopped SLU and had the ball again. Barry was fed the ball going down the lane and all he had to do was elevate and dunk the ball. The entire crowd saw this and was already in a crescendo. However, instead of that dunk he passed to Banks or whoever who than clanked it off the rim.
Net net-Barry needs to believe in himself. The team will benefit greatly.

He passed it to Assa who made the 3 but were right that he had a wide open lane to score and needs to be more aggressive on the offensive end as he is quick enough to get by his guy and they will give him space to shoot when he goes by them a few times

My 2 cents is that Barry and Evans are different players. Assa is a spot up 3 point shooter who has a very slow release. He is not quick so has not developed a move yet to get to the hole. He knows how to box out and grab a rebound. His problem this year has been confidence. Teams are guarding him closely because he has a slow release and is not a real threat to go to the basket. Barry Evans is a long quick defender who can rebound and run the floor. His game is closer to the basket. He handles the ball well. I think he could be used from high post at times. Pride and Woods are really not quick but can create off the dribble. I have said this group has never developed chemistry and that is why you see inconsistent offense especially when forcing the offense through Chad Venning.
