Looking for a gas station in Philadelphia my GPS led me to a very rough part of the city. I drove by Gratz street. It reminded me of Harry Moore, who played on the great Simon Gratz teams (107 game winning streak from from 1989-98). Harry might be the only Bona player, who did not have a choice in choosing where he wanted to play. Seeing the conditions of the neighborhood, I started to realize why Harry’s mother insisted on him coming to Bona. It was a perfect setting to keep her son from getting into trouble, with Bona being a small rural school that was 90 minutes away from any big city.
Discovered following from google search.
— At Simon Gratz, Harry was the leading scorer on a team with 2 future NBA players (Rasheed Wallace and Aaron Mckie) and 2 other double digit scorers at Temple and Delaware State.
— Harry was shot in the leg from an armed robbery. “At the time, the team's center, Harry Moore, was wounded and resting in a hospital.” Aaron McKie shares the following “Moore then called Wallace to his bedside" to tell him that "he would have to do whatever he could for the team.”
— It was after this advice from Harry where McKie said “it was the game Rasheed Wallace became a star.”
— Harry’s mother died in a car accident when he was a senior at Bona.
— After a professional career in Spain, Harry had financial difficulties because of gambling.
— “He started gambling in Atlantic City and Philadelphia-area casinos and through sports bookies,” his lawyer McDonald said "in a few months, he blew all his money made in Spain.”
— Soon afterwards Harry would run into trouble with the law.
Harry’s last legal trouble listed on line was in 2016. Harry’s lawyer stated “this was not a case of someone who acted out of malice, but rather of someone "overwhelmed by his addiction.” Hopefully Harry has turned his life around.
