WGRZ-TV reported last night that Tim Winn was the first signee for the new Buffalo ABA franchise. They also announced the team will be playing at the ECC gym. There was footage of the press conference and Tim Winn speaking with the media about his excitement to be back playing basketball in Buffalo professionally.

BUFFALO — Tim Winn thought his playing days were over. Then came an offer that was just too good to pass up.

The former LaSalle High School and St. Bonaventure basketball star retired after winning a United States Basketball League title with Pennsylvania last year. But he couldn’t pass up an opportunity to play point guard for the expansion Buffalo Rapids in the American Basketball Association this season.

“I’ve been playing pro ball ever since I got out of college, but nobody from here ever got a chance to see me play,” said Winn, who has played professionally in France, England, Venezuela, the Continental Basketball Association and the USBL. “It’s a great opportunity. I’ve been around the block a little bit.” . . .
