First, the announcers really botched the end of the game, screaming and yelling about a foul call and causing all of us a heart attack. I would love to know if Gary mentioned a foul in his call. Second, Schmidt does not believe in fouling up 3 ever. And it almost cost us this game. This win could really send us on a huge run to end the season. I am so glad you posted this. I went back to the game recording and the refs never did call a foul. There may or may not have been one, but they never called it. They did miss a clear over the back on 23 Kochera with 4.3 seconds left. If they get that right, then this discussion is irrelevant because Banks was fouled and he makes those routinely. Moving on to the next one. I definitely need to calm down.

In the announcer’s defense, they are positioned across the court from the scorer’s table in the RC…which means they can’t hear the refs conversations.
Go Bonnies!

If you look at the last shot in slow motion, the Davidson player takes at least 6 small steps before he shoots the ball. Shot shouldn’t have counted anyway.

Schmidt on end: “Thank God that line was a bit thicker,” Schmidt said, “I think the Franciscans had something to do with that.”
Plus: “The coaches have been telling me to keep my head up and keep playing,” Assa said, “We’ve been working in the gym, and it finally has paid off. Daryl Banks end the presser with his thoughts on the ending of this afternoon’s game. “This is up there as one of the craziest games I’ve ever played in,” Banks said, “I’ve never seen something like that reviewed for that long.”

On replays, this time last year I was cursing replay after what’s his name’s put back against the Dukes was overturned. Now my attitude has changed I guess, although it does detract from the end of games. The replays take long because they are never as clear as you’d hope and they usually have to look at several angles and views.

They took too long to review it but they made the right call, his foot was on the line

Post game presser Coach Schmidt said that review was "torture." Qusetioned why it took so long.
I don't mind extra time taken to ensure the call is right.

I can’t imagine the things I would’ve smashed or broken if we lost on a 4 point play at the buzzer lol

I saw the replay of the final sequence. What heads-up play from Kochera...corrals the 3-ball miss, has the presence of mind to dribble out beyond the arc, and despite pressure puts on a deke move to get an open look. Calm as a cuke shot to beat the horn. Thank heavens his toe was on the line to take the tying point off the board. Yeesh.
There's just something about Bona-DAV games at the RC. That 3-ot classic back in the Aldridge era remains one of Our Guys' greatest RC triumphs.

Another positive from Assa today, with THREE made buckets off the dribble, not catch and shoot...He's been trying it more, about once a game, but this was big step forward and really may improve his game from here on out...
But zeroes from Moses raises concerns....

Why in the world is Banks taking the final shot, why? Ask Schmidt. Why don't you guys watch Schmidt's post-game press conference and you would have your answer.

Impressions of a thrilling game. — Difference in this game was free throw shooting with Bona outscoring Davidson by 10 at the line (23-13). More specifically it was Mika and Chuck drawing fouls attacking the basket on drives. Mika 7-8 at the line and Chuck 6-6. Usually good things happen when Chuck and Mika have the ball. — Common theme recently is Chad and Noel outscoring the opponents centers. Tonight they combined for 23 points. In the last 5 games they have been averaging an impressive 20.8 ppg. Tonight they shot an incredible 80% from the field making 8 of 10 shots. — Daryl’s shot has looked a lot better since his new hair style. Tonight he was 4-10 from the field. In the last 2 games without the big afro, Daryl has made 6 of 13 shots from the field for 46.2%. Big improvement considering Daryl was shooting just 30.5% from the field with the big afro. Daryl also led the Bonnies with 6 rebounds. — Very impressive shooting performance from Conner Kochera making 11-15 from the field and scoring 29 points. Extreme majority of his shots were from 3s or just inside the arc. 6’5” Kochera was too quick for Assa and too tall for Daryl. The only time Kochera was slowed down was the 5 minutes in the 1st half (14:14-9:35) with Barry defending him. Barry kept Kochera from scoring. — Barry with his defense had the play of the game. Last shot of the game, Barry’s tight defense forced Kochera to move from behind the arc to the right to get around Barry for a shot attempt. This caused Kochera to step on the arc making a 2 when they needed a 3 to tie the game. Barry was there challenging the shot. Barry won this game for the Bonnies with his defense. Barry had the length and athleticism to defend Kochera. Barry should have spent more time defending Kochera than just 5 minutes in the 1st half and last 33 seconds of the game. gobonnies.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2023-24/davidson/boxscore/6211gobonnies.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2023-24/davidson/boxscore/6211

One other Note - Huffman was able to take DB3 to the hole and score repeatedly, fueling Davidson's late comeback. It was painfully obvious. Then Kochera easily took that rebound over Daryl's back before launching that last shot. While it's great to see DB3 get his stroke back, he definitely hurt us on the defensive end yesterday. Kudos to McKillop for taking advantage of the Huffman/Banks mismatch.
