I was at the CMU Notre Dame game last fall. CMU played ND very tough for over a half.

Chasing football destroyed Temple and Charlotte basketball, and most people dont know they have football teams or care about their football teams
(D)Umass wants to replicate that? so dumb.
The good thing is the A10 already replaced them with Loyola-Chicago. A better fit in a better city. I dont think we run to replace them. 14 teams is good

UMass has made the NCAA tourney once since its Final Four appearance in 1996.

I’m not buying that number at all.

Any ideas who or if the A-10 replaces UMass with?

For personal reasons, I would like to see Charleston(Daughter-In-Law graduated there), but the A10 should wait and see how the other conferences play out, maybe a BE or other “higher” conference might have a school leave.

They should have dropped their football program down to FCS a decade ago. All of this to make a whopping $670K per season to be in the MAC? If you combine UB and UMass's CFB fanbases, they probably couldn't fill a 15,000 seat stadium most games. MAC MBB is pretty rough outside of the top 2-4 teams and the football is totally irrelevant. I disagree FBS football is more important than an Atlantic 10 Conference basketball game that doesn’t bring the television viewership. I am a fan of both UB and the Bonnies but UB Bulls football importance wise is just behind the Buffalo Bills. What about the Buffalo Sabres? What about the Buffalo Sabres? Too many games. If the Buffalo Sabres are playing the same night as UB Bulls football regardless of the record I am watching the UB Bulls play football as a Canisius College alum. I am just telling it how it is for me personally. UB Bulls on Saturday and Buffalo Bills on Sunday during the football season. If UB or UMass ever made the College Football Playoff all of Western New York would be talking about it because football drives the numbers and fan interest I would guess that is the case for UMass fans in my opinion. Go Bonnies! Let’s Go Buffalo If people cared about MAC football, your powerhouse programs would be getting a lot more than $600K a year for your awesome product. UB Football stinks and has a major attendance issue...much like every other MAC school save one or two. A10 MBB nets more than that from their deals with NBC-CBS-ESPN. But hey, enjoy playing in the Bahamas bowl with that mighty payout of $220K! IF UMass were leaving for the AAC or any other legitimate conference, then I'd agree. Everyone knows B1G, SEC, ACC and Big 12 football or basketball is infinitely more popular than A10 hoops. MAC football is barely FBS at this point.

Suppose DePaul gets muscled out of the Big East.... that would be a great rivalry with Loyola and a like-minded school for the A10

from the article (thanks for posting)
"On Monday, the A-10 was ranked as the nation’s eighth-best conference by KenPom.com, which is generally considered the gold standard of college basketball analytics. The MAC was 24th.
Twenty-fourth.
That’s three spots below America East. Yes, UMass Lowell will be in a better basketball conference than UMass."

UMass will rue this move eventually. It's a shame imho.
