Don't really like that Chad Venning is pictured in the Senior Day ad for the St. Louis game, along with our four seniors/grad students. He is listed as a red shirt junior on our roster. The good news is that he probably is finishing his degree this spring. I really hope he returns to Bona for next year, but I think he will have a lot of options. We should all consider giving to our NIL collective.

Hi, could you provide a photo of this ad or where you saw it? Just curious. This would be quite the development. I thought Chad was a junior and banked on him returning next season.

There is a picture of the 5 @ the ST. BONAVENTURE ATHLETICS site. The announcers doing the VCU - Richmond game said a Senior can participate in Senior Day activities and can still come back and play the next year.

If Venning stays for next year, he will be 1000pt scorer in just a Bona uniform as well as currently being a multi school 1000pt scorer. Right now I believe he has 813 points as a Bonnie.
There have only been 48 in school history. If he wants to leave a bit of a legacy, he should stay.
It appears it going to be some time before we have another 1000 pt scorer.

He may as well stay. I think he's got an NIL deal with Bona's so he's probably making some money. His other option ir realistically overseas anyway.

I am sure he has and will get another NIL deal from SBU. I am also sure that there are many other schools that would give him a lot of money in an NIL deal. Probably more than SBU will. Overseas is definitely not his only option. This is why it is so important to donate to our NIL collective. We need to compete.

But if he gets paid by sbu it's not worth leaving for one year and learning a new system. I really hope he stays. Also, this is why this whole NIL thing is ruining college basketball.

Kinda ridiculous to predict when SBU or any program will have another 1000 Pt scorer. None of the current 5th year guys began their career at Bonas. I’m sure the coaching staff will hit the portal hard in an effort to replace 4 key pieces with some veterans — or maybe not depending on how we do in Brooklyn.
Yes it’s possible that Rose, Thompson, Kaba will contribute next season but Schmidt has proven that roster turnover is not a bad thing. He’s obviously not afraid of it.
We don’t know which of our guys plan to hit the portal. Time will tell.

I am certainly no expert on such things, but I gotta believe Chad will be advised that his prospects of playing professional hoops anywhere would be enhanced by using his las year of eligibility playing college ball. I hope that he will feel some degree of obligation to Bonas for having transformed him from a back-up level player to having a legit shot at playing professional ball somewhere and will realize his best option at increasing his opportunities would be staying at Bonas where he’ll almost certainly enter next season at a default starter. Chad will be an all-league candidate and we need as many players at that level as we can get.

Chad has announced himself as a senior on the radio broadcasts before every game. The team website says he is a redshirt junior. I assume he can graduate this spring? ? According to the website, he would return. According to how he presents himself, he could leave after this year. He was a part of senior day which would suggest he might be leaving.
