Credit to Daryl for clutch, gutsy performance. Also feel MAW sometimes is overlooked because he is so consistent. 13 ppg , 47 percent from the field and 45 percent from three and 84 percent from the line. Seldom turns the ball over despite facing tough man to man defense in a league filled with excellent guards. Plays solid defense. Thought he deserved consideration for third team all conference

Difference is that Capers was not a great FT shooter (65% for his career) and Tubby Smith called a timeout after his first and second makes to ice him. With the CBS/Turner (?) long commercial breaks it was almost 10 minutes for DMC to sink three freebies. Most surreal moment of my Bona fandom. Excruciating and exhilarating. We all knew full well that DB would sink any and all free throws in the clutch. It’s what he does best. Correct...for the Kentucky game on the 3rd free throw, referee had to retrieve ball that he had already handed to DMC as CBS had not rejoined from commercial yet...yet adding to an already tension filled moment. They did give him a moment to recompose/refocus with his teammates at center court before play resumed.

I mean, this guy is all guts! I’ve been on Schmidt all year for playing him too much and frustrated with the shooting slump but we saw yesterday why Coach has stuck with him thru everything, because he is the gutsiest, grittiest guy we’ve got! Adding MAW and Chuck into that group gives us 3 really gritty guys. We need Moses to re-emerge and our backcourt can cook these last two games.
Kudos to DB3 for never losing faith in himself, that is a dude who wants the ball in his hands in the big moments and for that reason he will either put us on his back or we won’t advance. We believe in DB3!

I can promise you no one on the team, Daryl or any player, is reading this reactionary, fair-weather, oft-just mean message board. For good reason.

I can promise you no one on the team, Daryl or any player, is reading this reactionary, fair-weather, oft-just mean message board. For good reason. I hope they don't read this shit. I don't even like reading this shit. I like reading a few people's post that really know what they are talking about. However, I frequent this board mostly for recruiting news. Then, I end up having to stick up for the best coach bona's has had. He's taking a bunch of boneheaded but talented players to the semi finals of the a-10 tourney. These guys have not helped him out this year- they are the most unpredictable team that you almost don't even want to watch but yet you have to... just because. Imagine coaching a team with this much talent then you get into the game and the whole team is just making mistake after mistake. Like the Loyola player that missed his foul shot and had time to sneak around and grab the rebound for a put back dunk. That's stuff a D-1 coach doesn't have to coach. Boxing out the shooter is 5th grade basketball and it's very important. Mika getting the offensive foul for pushing that guy that was all over him-but he's a 5th year senior and that was in one of the OT's, it could have cost them the game.

A bit ironic that St Peter’s earned a bid to the NCAA Tourney yesterday, two seasons after a coaching change and complete roster rebuild — losing Banks, Edert, Ndefo, Drame twins etc..

Despite his ups and downs, Banks will be missed because he always seemed to care and was invested in the program.
Hard to develop any sort of affinity for 1-yr players for obvious reasons, but this lack of roster continuity should be expected going forward.

One other fact about Darryl that gets overlooked… he signed with the Bonnies in late April 2022 most likely with the understanding that the Iron 5 less Adaway would be returning for their fifth season. Banks would be the perfect complement to a team with little depth — or perhaps the 5th starter on veteran team favored for another A10 championship run.
One week later, Lofton, Holmes, OO and Welch entered the transfer portal. Holmes was the first to officially depart by signing with Iowa State on May 1.
5/12/22: Lofton signs with Florida 5/13/22: OO to Iowa State 5/21/22: Welch to Bama
All other backup players hit the portal as well. Two redshirt freshmen remained. Banks’ head must have been spinning like a top. Credit to Darryl to sticking with his commitment and producing many great performances in his two seasons at SBU.
All the best to DB3 and other departing seniors.
