Ignoring demoron: I don’t understand why non-trolls on this fanbase were so hard on Rumpel. Played extremely hard, diving for loose balls, winning us extra possessions, attacked the basket and could finish when few guards on last year’s roster could. Also seemed like a really good kid.

I don’t understand why non-trolls on this fanbase were so hard on Rumpel. I think most wrongly disliked him based on what others thought of him. Some people around here thought he was some type of knock-down shooter in high school and that he was high profile recruit despite coming out of a non-competitive region for MBB. Wasn't his fault, of course. He wasn't much of a shooter, but did play well at times and always played hard. Too bad he transferred as he showed glimpses of being a solid enough player. He should do well at Manhattan. Some people on message boards root against their best interests just to win an argument.

Brett Rumpel is a better player than being portrayed. Unfortunately injury has been a big factor. Sophomore season at Manhattan. — Season ending knee injury during game against UConn. Scoring zero points before leaving because of injury. Scoring zero points had a big factor in his overall stats for the season with just 5 games played. — Prior to injury, Brett was Manhattan’s 2nd leading scorer at 12.2 ppg. — Started all 5 games. In the 4 games prior to his injury Brett was leading the Jaspers in playing time, averaging 34 minutes a game. — His shot? Shot 33.3% from behind the arc, which is 3rd best among Jasper’s starters. Shot 80% from the line. As a freshman at Bona. — Missed several games because of a broken ankle. — Played in 24 games and averaged 8.5 minutes per game. — Had good stats when he was on the court. Per 40 minutes; averaged 9.0 points, 5.1 assists (2nd on team). — His shot? Made 50% from 3s (best on team), made 78.9% of his free throws (Daryl was only starter with a better shooting percentage at the line). Shot 39.5% from the field (Moses was the only guard with a better shooting percentage from the field). — Brett earned Schmidt’s trust at end of the season. Last 7 games Brett had 99 minutes averaging 14.1 minutes per game by far the best off the bench (Barry had 52 minutes, averaged 7.4). www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/manhattan/men/2024.htmlwww.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/st-bonaventure/men/2024.html

If you ignore the context and focus on the stats he presented, Rumpies would have his locker retired. - 50% from 3s (best on team) - Please ignore the fact he averaged 1.9 ppg. How can that be? This deadly sharp shooter didn't even average 3 points per game but George Washington would have him heralded as the best 3 point shooter on the team. Also, don't forget that lame video Rumpies posted over that summer shooting uncontested 3s. - For someone that couldn't shoot despite what Chuckster wants you to believe, he was also reckless with the ball. 1.1 assists to 1.2 turnovers per game. I thought his decision making and ball handling were supposed to be his strengths? - 1.3 fouls per game despite limited minutes. Extrapolate that over 40 minutes Chuck E. Jesus, and it further proves how much of a liability he was. - If you want some true comedy gold, read about his high praises from the Bandwagon: - Bobby Hurley meets Bobby Sura - Can you imagine Anouar Mellouk and Brett Rumpel on a fast break should be worth a look (must be that fast break was from the cops after their road rage incident)

It is not a surprise to see demourse accentuate the negative. Unlike demourse, Schmidt saw Brett’s improvement, which is reflected by his playing time. Start out last on the bench and became a primary reserve at end of season. Of all the reserves Brett received the most playing time in Bonnies last 7 games. It was not close with Brett having 99 minutes compared to Anouar 58, Barry 52 and Anquan 41. Brett's solid start at Manhattan is further proof he is better than how he is portrayed by a few on the Bandwagon. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/st-bonaventure/men/2023.html

You may call it negative, I call it the truth. Congrats on the being the most used bench player for a coach that hardly uses his bench. That’s essentially giving an award to the tallest midget.

At Manhattan BRETT played 4 games before his season ending knee injury early in the UCONN game.
31 mmp, 12.3 ppg, 39% FGs, 33% TREYS, 6 Rebs, 3.3 Assists.
Before his injury the Jaspers were 3-1. After loosing Brett team went 4-22 with 2 wins coming in OT.
We attended a game at the end of the season. My daughter spoke to Brett who was in good spirits looking forward to next season. She rented a house in Bingo for 4 years with his first cousin Natalie (Bona #1 Tennis Player 2000-04) when she taught at Union Endicott school district. Brett was happy to see a Bona grad and talk about the Bonnies. Brett's upper body looks a lot stronger. He should do well in the MAAC next season.
I wish our former Bonnie all the best

Boy were my concerns misplaced! The recruiting work put in by Schmidt and staff have been in full speed ahead mode this summer as of today with Council and Hinton, with more to go? Shame on me for having doubts. I love these kinds of days.

I’m concerned about rebounding and about within the team leadership. We have not shot well recently and likely will need more shots, hence the rebounding. Traditional leadership development is diminished under NIL and more liberal transfer trends, I believe. But no angst over Coach and fan base doing whatever they can to support this group of players enabling our university to continue to punch above our weight class on a regular basis.
