The board is slow so I thought I would start a thread about weirdos who went to SBU.
In the mid 80's there was a guy from NJ who lived on 3rd Francis. We called him Prophet because he claimed to be receiving secret messages from MTV. What started out as a weird thing became obsessive to him, as he stopped going to classes and would smoke pot and watch MTV all day and night. Finally someone spoke to Father Richard about their concerns about the Prophet and Father Richard spent a number of hours with the Prophet and was so concerned that he called his parents and they picked him up the next day. Never knew what happened to him after his parents got him.

In the 1968 - 1972 era we had any number of strange cats......one Leaping Larry who actually leaped through the snow drifts on the way to the post office building (where the Fine Arts Center is today), never used the sidewalk. Only wore low Cons, never spoke with anyone. Every morning in the winter we would watch Larry leaping through the snow drifts, it was a noon time ritual..........he seemed so friendless....very sad.....
Or how about Mary Boyle or Hit the Road........every single time Hit the Road would enter the RC for Sunday Movie night, the movie fans would stand and chant Hit the Road (HTH was a rather large female who did not always take adequate care of her outward appearance)..........the name Mary Boyle was often shouted out from Dev or Rob Fal at night.......not sure of the origin of the Mary Boyle shout........but it was a legend on campus.........
The legend of HTH was that as a frosh she attempted to enter "The Post" pub in Allegany with several friends, and while the friends were admitted, the bouncers told her to "Hit the Road", thus the sobriquet!

De Fund NPR ( national propaganda radio). Could not agree more, NPR is really a far left propaganda outlet, undeserving of a single penny of public funds............

tg, what you choose to waist your money on is your business but public money should not be supporting such liberal garbage as npr.

He should probably be advocating for more funding to public education. Looks like his was lacking.

Graduated from both SBU and UB. Never gave even one penny to the hedonistic, socialist, anti Christian, anti American, souless entity known as UB. Would love to see these left wing professors get a "real" job in in the "real" world.
Its high time for the SUNY System to close some campuses, there is way too much waste in the SUNY system.

I enjoy listening to NPR radio. I appreciate their fair and balanced reporting on interesting topics. My favorite shows are “Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me; Fresh Air and Planet Money.”
Keep on listening!

Listened to NPR shows for many years coming home from business road trips and enjoyed them too, but they have become so extreme in their reporting that I can no longer listen to them. They are obnoxiously far left and biased now in their reporting. Not credible. They deserve zero government funding. Let them fund raise on their own. We need a government broadcasting service like we need electric cars!

Ziggy Ziggy Ziggy “ I appreciate their fair and balanced reporting “. Yes, they do have a couple of non-basis stories. I have listened to NPR shows for many years coming home from business road trips and enjoyed them too. As I hear them now, they are in bed with the Socialist/Communist. MAKE OLEAN GREAT AGAIN !!! That isn’tmy take on how NPR reports the news. Perhaps you don’t like the factual information they provide.
