I have a suggestion. Let’s make the Campus Ministry the “Father Dan Riley Memorial Campus Ministry.” Could not agree more, Bonas needs a permanent memorial to Fr. Dan., perhaps the "Father Dan Riley Memorial Chapel at the Thomas Merton Campus Mininstry Center".

Fr Dan, aka Bill Riley, was a classmate. I last was with him at our 60th reunion in June. I had no indication, he looked well, so when I received the news I was shocked. I am so happy that he officiated our class Mass, and he chose me to do one of the readings. What came upon him so suddenly? Losing Fr Dan and Hoffie in same week is very difficult to take ..........................

Skeller - it may not have come on suddenly, but 81 years is 81 years and recovery from just about anything is not easy and is never guaranteed.

Father Dan Riley's wake will held in the University Chapel on Thursday 8/1/24 from 3-7PM, with mediation and prayers and reflections held after that in Doyle Hall.
Mass is Friday 8/2/24 at 11AM in the University Chapel. Get there very early, seating is limited as we all know. Pax et Bonum!

I wish I was better at technology, but there is an email, with links, with details. Including registering ahead of time for reasons below
Dear Alumni and Friends, As we continue to prepare for the celebration of Fr. Dan Riley’s life later this week, we ask that you please respond to the survey you will find at this link if you are coming to the vigil prayer service on Thursday or the funeral and reception on Friday. This will allow us to gauge our seating needs, food for the reception after the funeral service, and other amenities on campus. We need your responses by NOON Tuesday, July 30, if at all possible. Please note that seating is limited in the chapel, with many seats reserved for family, friars, Mt. Irenaeus staff and board members, and university trustees. Thus, responding to this survey does NOT guarantee a seat in the Chapel for the funeral. In keeping with the wishes of the Mt. Irenaeus community and recognition that friars are brothers to one another, friar-priests and visiting priests are invited to participate among the faithful in lieu of concelebrating. There will be reserved seating for Fr. Dan’s family, SBU and Mt. Irenaeus friars, Mountain staff and board members, University trustees, and trustee emeriti. People unable to be seated in the chapel will be directed to the Quick Center for the Arts (capacity 321) to view the livestream of the funeral service. (The vigil prayer service on Thursday will not be streamed.) Visitation/Vigil Prayer Service – Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024 • Visitation/Wake – University Chapel, 3-7 p.m. • Vigil Prayer Service - University Chapel, 7-7:30 p.m. • (Optional) Meditative Reflection/Sharing – Doyle Conference Center, 7:45-8:45 p.m. Funeral Mass – Friday, Aug. 2, 2024 • Alternate Visitation – University Chapel, 9:30-10:30 a.m. • Funeral Mass – University Chapel, with Quick Center for overflow, 11 a.m. • Post-Mass Reception – Hickey Dining Hall • NOTE: Committal will be private at a later date. Visit the Mt. Irenaeus website to read Fr. Dan’s full obituary or to leave a remembrance at the bottom of this page.

Was at the wake today in the University Chapel....what a tremendous experience.....
Family was gathered in front of the plain wood coffin.....so appropriate for the humble Franciscans to be buried in a simple casket......
Everyone was so welcoming....folks attended in Bonas T shirts and expensive suits......numerous Franciscan brothers and priests in attendance chatting with all.....
It was a gathering of people rich and poor who followed him, loved him and were counseled by him...
He will be missed, sorely missed.
I have known Fr. Dan since 1968, and I know that he lived a life that was a symbol of our shared Franciscanism........never forget that....carry on his mission....

Father Dan was the first person I met when loading my stuff onto 4th Dev my freshman year in 1979. To me, Father Dan always epitomized what St. Bonaventure was all about. I will always remember his laugh, his positive spirit, him chatting with my son years ago in Florida, and his patience and acceptance without passing judgement. St. Bonaventure and the world will be far worse off with him gone. RIP Father Dan.

If I remember correctly from one of his open chats, he almost didn't enter the priesthood initially. He had a girlfriend and was prepared to get a regular job, enter laity. But then God called him to this cause and man did he thrive with the vocation.

Immensely moving service for Fr. Dan. Especially the tribute to Fr. and the Cosmic Christ! I finally have a bit of an understanding of what I was really learning during my 4 years at St. Bonaventure and how I will use it for good going forward for the rest of my life.

Want a measure of Fr Dan's impact on the Bona community?
Over 63000 folks live streamed his funeral mass for the good father, and 1500 more have watched on line after the mass, not to mention the many hundreds who personally attended the mass at University Chapel and watched on close circuit in the Quick Fine Arts Center.........
The Franciscans again aced this service and homily about Fr. Dan and the Cosmic Christ and necessity of place, the homily was just outstanding....Bravo to all.......
