Several FB accounts state Father Dan has passed away. Father Dan was the essence of what being a Franciscan is all about.
Father Dan, along with Father Dan Hurley, started Mt. Ireaneus. Father Dan was a Bonaventure icon.
RIP Father Dan.🙏🙏

Most likely one of the most accomplished motivational speakers I have ever heard in my lifetime.
In his prime he was unmatched.
He preached at all of my many reunions and was always outstanding!!
He will never be replicated, simply the best.
His sister Ellen graduated with us in the class of '72, along with Hoffie !!

Simply, the university will never be the same, although he would probably disagree.

Had lunch with him in the dining hall when I returned to teach for two weeks back in fall 2014. Memorable. The word "legend" is thrown around a lot but certainly applies in his case.

He was the best guy, I will miss him dearly
In the dorms he would occasionally host us for an evening of conversation. It would be standing room only every time he did this he was so loved

I have a suggestion. Let’s make the Campus Ministry the “Father Dan Riley Memorial Campus Ministry.”

Wow. Came on here looking for some good news and now so bummed out to see this. My last contact with Fr. Dan was an alumni Mass he said at Chaminade HS down here on Long Island a few years ago. Fond memories also of the many Masses I attended that he celebrated at the Campus ministry. One of the most consistently positive outlooks on life that I ever encountered in a person. What a great example for us and such a great representative of our school. God Blessed all of us with Fr. Dan, both Fr. Dans.

Isn't the Campus Ministry already named after Thomas Merton? Nevertheless, Father Dan was invaluable to St Bonaventure. RIP Father Dan.

Maplehurst - You might be right. But If so, find someplace else - even if just a room somewhere. Better yet, how about the Father Dan Riley Community Soup Kitchen? Sort of like keeping the building named the Reilly Center, but naming the hoops court after Bob Lanier. Of course, it’s ironic to name something permanent after the humblest of people, but there’s a lesson in doing so.

Fr Dan, aka Bill Riley, was a classmate. I last was with him at our 60th reunion in June. I had no indication, he looked well, so when I received the news I was shocked. I am so happy that he officiated our class Mass, and he chose me to do one of the readings.

Had the pleasure of chauffeuring Fr.Dan to and from Cleveland to present the marriage vows to my brother in law and his bride. Never got ahead of his astute words. An education for me. God Bless! See you on the other side.
