The OTH has a story on Seth Greenberg’s appearance and speech at Schmidt’ s CvC event at Bartlett CC including the text of Greenberg praising Mark as one of his top 5 coaches in college hoops, something he noted he was not just saying because he was at an event with Mark. If you have access to the story, I suggest you read it. I can’t get it to paste here so sorry, but if you want to DM me, I think I can send it directly to individual email addresses. Greenberg has been around a while and has seen more than a few coaches from the court floor to the broadcast booth, so it’s a real honor for him to single out Mark like that - and Bonas. In other comments he noted how difficult it was to coach in the RC, and has specific unpleasant memories of having done so, saying we were worse than NC State, which is also at the top of his list of unwelcoming places.
And pertinent to our constant difficulties in scheduling, he notes that because of Mark’s coaching abilities (in particular, “tricky” plays, teams just don’t want to play us. I suggest that has to be put into any conversation about the quality of the opponents we are able to schedule in the OOC every year.
Also, Greenberg has some interesting thoughts on the portal and NIL. IN short, he suggests a two year deal in which the money is placed in an interest bearing account which only is made available to the athlete IF he/she makes progress toward obtaining a degree and participates in community service. Putting aside for now any legal objection, I like his ideas and agree with his assessment that it would add some control to college sports.
