Wow! I didn't think St. Bonaventure would ever be this bad again. Let's not let the Bonnies go down without a fight.

Transfer portal has made it very difficult to predict how good a team will be. Such as Richmond and Loyola finished tied for first in the A-10. On A-10 Media Day they were picked for 11th and 8th. Or how about UMass picked for 13th and they finished 4th. Sadly Bonnies proved it can work the other way. A-10 picked Bonnies for 3rd and they finished tied for 7th with 2 other teams, which means they were tied of 7th, 8th and 9th. A 10th place prediction isn’t that far off from how the Bonnies finished last season. Then you add Bonnies return just 1 player (Noel Brown) and he wasn’t even a starter. Something I think Jon Rothstein missed out on was Lajae Jones. MVP of National JUC0 Tournament, 2nd team JUCO All-American and leading scorer of the #1 JUCO team in the nation. Then add Arman Jovic of PGT Scouting has Lajae Jones as his 2nd best transfer in the A-10. Rothstein doesn’t even have Lajae as a starter. I’ve watched Lajae this summer. I think without a doubt Lajae is a starter for the Bonnies and might be a star of the team. Hopefully Bonnies are better than 10th, which I think they will be. www.warrennolan.com/basketball/2024/conference/Atlantic-10hoopshd.com/2023/10/19/atlantic-10-media-day-recap-and-response-2/

Rothstein is one of the few national talking heads that ever gives the a10 some love. He does a good job covering Bona and the A10 as a whole.
He’s not a hack and picking Bona to finish 10th isn’t that outlandish given what we have on paper.
Could we finish better than 10th? Sure, but it’s not like he’s picking us 10th and any other credible outlet has us much higher. It’s probably going to be a long year much like it was two years ago.

I believe last year's transfers were significantly over-rated. The pre-season A10 #3 pick was definitely an over reach. It was evident early on the last years team was NOT what they were cracked up to be. Chemistry and leadership issues finally bubbled to the surface and they imploded. I drank the Koolaid last year (and the year before) as well. That all being said - I am cautiously optimistic about this year's squad. Better size and strength for starters - chemistry and tenacity on the defensive end will be the difference between a TOP 4 finish and a #10-ish finish. The pedigree looks to be there - and I agree with CHUCK that Lajae may be the Dion Wright type of player that we have lacked for several years.
GO BONAS

IMO this is right about where I would expect most of the national pre-season predictions to put us. I mean, so what? We return very limited production and no starters on a team that runs a complicated offense where continuity and experience are critical to success. We have little of either, so it’s not surprising that someone like Rothstein will simply not see much success for the Bonnies this year, particularly where other teams had a more stable off-season. Like I said, so what?

Yeah we got a lot of new players but so does literally everyone else in the league
One thing we do have returning is the same coaching staff. Ya know, the coach that hasn’t finished in 10th place as Rothstein’s predicting in like 15 years.
So if it’s difficult to predict, and basically a crapshoot with all the new guys, why would you “guess” the team that hasn’t finished that low in forever to do so?
—
My guess as to why he would do so? Rothstein is treated well if you know what I mean, by some other athletic departments in this league.

Anyone know how reliable barttorvik.com/# predictions are? Has Bonnies 7th A10 and in low 100s nationally. Has our Big4 rival UB and Siena dismally low in 300s
