Skeller6 - you will be happy to know Bonas is heavily advertising St. Francis Week on campus. It appears to be starting along with Parent’s weekend.
With all the advertising I wonder how many students will participate in the planned activities.

This is such a made up controversy, starting with the stigmata argument. My daughter attends Bonas currently and talked about how the stigmata was discussed heavily in class, was a focal part of campus ministry that day and recognized at mass that Sunday. Francis week is, as always an intergal part of the campus focus. Before complaining (and Friar this is not directed at you) people should actually check out their facts and see what is happening on campus. To suggest that the Franciscan spirit and the catholic nature of the school is not an overwhelming part of the campus community is just plain wrong. And yes, the campus does make great strides in making sure that it is accepting of all faiths. This, more than anything is Fr. Dan's legacy on campus. The embrace of the Cosmic Christ as a the guiding force behind all religions is not only the spirtual background of SBU but the Friar life as well. Folks complaining about this should remember back to what is actually taught at the school and what the friars stand for.

The school needs to suspend classes for the day. Make it a HUGE deal. Then have a midmorning Mass in the Chapel, RC, outside weather pending. Afterwards have a campus wide BBQ on the front lawn. Celebrate the founder of the Franciscans and invite alums, parents, etc. It was never a big deal when I was there but this would be a great opportunity to recognize a great Saint.

In my years at bona I don’t recall any real discussion of the stigmata, St Francis, or St Bonaventure… I was surprised to learn that St Bonaventure was primarily an academic theologian. Living in Allegany ,the only. Thing I’ve heard cf about celebrating St Francis week is on this board.

Could not agree more.........invite alums, parents, fob, everyone........bring all Catholics back to campus.......make it a fall homecoming centered around our Catholic faith and Franciscan traditions........reach out as Wilmer would say..........

Every student takes a class for a whole semester on St Bonaventure’s “Journey of the Mind to God” where we go in depth into Bonaventure’s theology and teachings. Did you not pay attention?

Kccgold: nice that’s in the curriculum but it was not when I graduated… there were required “ retreats” held in butler gym and required theology and philosophy classes..Thomas Aquinas was mentioned… anything that happens on campus now is not widely known in the community except basketball, the “soup kitchen” in Olean …Bona responds” and a few random pr announcements.

SBU is closed on 10/14 to recognize Indigenous Peoples Day. If you have plans to visit the campus note all offices are closed. Enjoy the long weekend.

You mean Columbus Day Exactly its Columbus Day, named after Christopher Columbus, the famed Catholic explorer, who harmed no one, but brought the Good News to the New World. In his honor the largest Catholic men's fraternity in the world was formed....the Knights of Columbus.....maybe just maybe Friar is a member of the Olean Council !!
