The 1st half they were dynamite. Jones is settling in as a good player and rebounder. Schmidt was coaching these players hard

Foul shooting was alarming. Otherwise a solid performance. Coach said it best: we need work on the zone offense.
Good to see 5 guys in double figures and none of them named Chance.

Offense took a breather in the 2nd half (27 pts). Took 6 shots less but made a respectable 43.5%. 4-10 FTs UGH!
We continue to play good D (#2 in A10) while avoiding fouls with 9 blocks!
Continue pattern of getting to the stripe more than opponents (23-7 FTAs today), 81-56 on the season.
Balanced scoring with 5 putting up double #s while our #1 scorer had only 6 pts.
Glad to see NOEL with team high 15 pts on 6-8 and 3-3 FTs. His soft jump hook is something OSSUN wished he had.
We are A10 #5 in Reb Margin (+7.8) and # 6 in BLOCKS.
We have the speed, athleticism & finishers to dominate fast break points (51-22) !!

Our first off the Bench Hinton (15.9 mpg) and 2nd THOMPSON (8.6 mpg) are shooting well.
JONAH 12-26 FGs (.462), 7-18 TREYS (39%)
DUANE 6-11 FGs (55%), 4-8 TREYS (50%)
Remains to be seen but JONES (42%) and HINTON (39%) may be our best from deep.

Neither here nor there, but after watching the replay on YES, the Bonnie’s are a very quick team. Also, visually the RC looks great after recent improvements with the floor,Lighting etc.

A very satisfying win. Team playing unselfish and disciplined. I expect we will be seeing more ZONE defense from our opponents to slow down our penetration and collapse on Noel in the paint. Chance received extra attention yesterday but others stepped up. I am very impressed with Lajae's game - he doesn't force shots and he hits the boards on both ends. He is a glue guy - with a high basketball IQ - has a nice shot and handles the ball very well for a big man. We've found a real player there.
LeMoyne surged but never got closer than ~15 in the 2nd half. Good poise on O and solid D kept the game out of reach. Jonah was impressive off the PINE again. The 3 guard rotation at the 1 and 2 spots is very strong. COACH will be focused on ZONE offense this week in practice for certain.
So far - what's not to like ? GO BONAS ...

After the game I was curious when LeMoyne started playing zone, so I watched replay of the game on ESPN+. Being a home game it was my first time watching Brendan McDaniels and Adam Bennett. I thought they did an excellent job. Brendan with giving a lot of information about the Bonnies. Then Adam’s insight and his breaking down the game as a color guy. Really noticed this after watching Richmond playing at Bucknell as their color guy was terrible.
Small sample of Adam’s insight. — “LeMoyne’s guards have more fouls, because they face more one on one situations, because Bonnies have better defensive rotation.” — Mentions 1st half “defensive intensity” which was absent in the 2nd half. — Last 4 minutes of 1st half stated with Noah in the lineup “this is my favorite defensive lineup because of the length Noah brings to the team.” LeMoyne would score just 2 points in the last 4 minutes of the 1st half. — I hope Adam and Brendan are correct with their numerous praise of Noah. It is obvious Noah has untapped talent, but are we going to see it on the court this season? I’m really starting to wonder. Strange part is I was worried about Noah’s defense. I thought his offense was solid. Now his defense is much better than his offense. Go figure.
Getting off track. LeMoyne’s 2nd half zone defense was very effective. They played zone throughout the 2nd half. I started to wonder how much zone did LeMoyne played in the 1st half. I was surprised watching replay on ESPN+. — Start of the game LeMoyne started in man defense. — After first 4 minutes Bonnies built a quick 10 point lead. — They go to a zone, but Bonnies hit a few open 3 pointers and LeMoyne’s coach makes the mistake of alternating between man and zone defense for rest of 1st half. — At halftime their coach must have realized, zone was a much better defense. He played just zone throughout the 2nd half.
As LeMoyne’s coach realize his players do not match up with the Bonnies athletically. Man defense was a mistake. Watching film of this game, every coach is going to realize zone defense is the answer when playing the Bonnies. Hopefully Bonnies can find more shooters for rest of the season. I’m at a lost why Noah’s shot is so terrible. Hopefully he finds it soon as Bonnies need it.

Gotta work on free throw shooting
There are a few guys here that are excellent at putting their hands in the passing lanes on D though. Council sticks out
The score keeps had Le Moyne with less turnovers but I honestly don’t know what they were doing there. It felt way different

COACH will be focused on ZONE offense this week in practice for certain. After the game with Nease and Scholla, Schmidt stated they work on zone everyday day during practice. You can see it with some nice plays against LeMoyne's zone. Specifically remember a beautiful high low from Duane to Noel. I think the problem isn't so much executing plays. It is more of the Bonnies lacking enough shooters to hit the open 3 point jumpers, which is the big weakness of the zone. From 3s Bonnies 4 starters are shooting (26.3%, 26.3%, 10.0% and 0%) with only Lajae having a solid 3 point stroke at 41.7%. Thankfully Jonah and Duane has provided solid 3 point shooting off the bench. Big problem is Chance and Melvin combine 38 attempts from 3s, is so much more than Jonah and Duane's combine 3 point attempts (26). With Chance and Melvin's history with shooting 3s they should NOT be leading Bonnies in 3 point attempts. s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/sidearm.nextgen.sites/gobonnies.sbu.edu/documents/2024/11/16/2024-25_SBU_Season_Stats_4.pdf

I knew Bonnies had a big edge with fast break points, but I'm surprised by following from WGT "We have the speed, athleticism & finishers to dominate fast break points (51-22)!! Wow I didn't expect Bonnies to have this many more fast break points than their opponents. Last season Bonnies rarely had more fast break points. Dramatic proof of the athleticism of this team.

CHUCK - Remember that the first, and perhaps most important, key to attacking a 2-3 zone remains not settling for a three-point shot. Of course, if a three-pointer comes as a clean result of an offensive action, then by all means take it. But too often, teams settle for threes against zones because they can’t consistently pressure the paint. Ball movement to create seams in the zone to penetrate is the best way to attack a zone. The short corner is almost always open with crisp passing and ball reversal. High Low from the foul line and below area (as was executed from Duane to Noel), or short corner to the high man diving is there as well. Check out old film of how Jamie Dixon @ PITT shredded Boeheim's 2-3 for years. No need to bomb 3s when you can get lay-ups. Of course - if we have a hot hand (or two) - and can create wide open looks, then bomb away.

I agree with the high low from the foul line and I'm sure Schmidt will use it a few times with Noel high and Bowen low, similar to the play Bonnies used with Shoon and Lofton.

Agree with almost everything 82.5 stated. Do not believe following is a situation for the Bonnies offensive struggles in the 2nd half "But too often, teams settle for threes against zones because they can’t consistently pressure the paint." Like the 1st half, Bonnies had solid execution against the zone in the 2nd half. Actually had comparable FG% from the field in the 2nd half (52% to 44%) which is incredible when considering their struggles from 3s (poor 20% from 3s) in the 2nd half. Reminder Bonnies attempted just 1 more 3 in the 2nd half. The big difference was the shooting percentages from 3s (45.45% to 25.0%). The open looks were there, but unlike the 1st half they were poor from shooting 3s. It wasn't execution and all of a sudden Bonnies shooting too many 3s (just 1 more than 1st half). It was Bonnies moving back to the norm with their 2nd half with shooting from 3s, especially Chance and Melvin. Chance and Melvin are shooting too many 3s. Need to see more 3s from Lajae, Jonah and Duane. Hopefully Noah can find his proven stroke from his past experience. gobonnies.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2024-25/le-moyne/boxscore/7079
