This is such an enjoyable thread. So many great memories. Didn't Marvin Barnes & Ernie D of Providence come into Reilly in 1974? Also, those Georgetown and Villanova teams that came into the Reilly were pretty good as well. Fantastic memories.

Bonnies play Utah State next. Once the Bonnies played them when Tom Stith was leading scorer in the country. They had a big kid named Billy McGill Hill who was second in scoring. I think Bonnies won.

Great time & memories bonnieswinn Marvin & Kevin Stacom in '74 [was University Ctr back then]. Ernie was a rookie with Buffalo Braves in '74 and got ROY Award. I'm sure DerHut can chip in the names of the 'Nova players from 73/74 and of course Duquesne had a heckuva team as well. Don't forget Ray Meyer's Depaul teams w/Dave Corzine & UDetroit with Dickie V. Fairfield was an East Coast powerhouse for a small Catholic school. Rutgers, Canisius & Niagara had good teams as well. ECAC had a solid group of teams.

According to SBUNFURLED, BONA played Utah State for 3rd place in the 1960 NIT, BONA lost 99-83 and it was SAM STITH's final game.

nova featured chubby cox [ joe jellybean bryant's brother in law - kobe bryant was cox' nephew ] big john olive and tom melchionni..
i think the most talented team to visit the RC in those years was south carolina which featured nba guys kevin joyce, alex english, brian winters and mike dunleavy...some ugly irony with them - the tom riker affair...the south carolina coach, frank maguire was run out of nyc for off the court transgressions...no problemo says frank...joyce, winters, dunleavy, john roche, and a few more nyc Catholic league kids went down to columbia sc to further their education and experience ACC pre NIL largesse.
vitale had a couple of good years with nba guys such as john long, terry tyler and terry "sweet d " duerod - then moved on to the pistons fiasco

recent scientific studies have proven that those who experienced copious amounts of schaefer beer, vintage 1967 through 1980 have excellent memory recall of all things bona hoops....

That would be a great story, but Billy The Hill played for Utah, not Utah State. We beat them my Freshman year, at the Holiday Festival, semifinal, 89-88, preceding the finals vs Ohio State. My image of McGill was a lanky player who shot a jump hook, my memory was seeing him do it from the corner, at least 10 or 15 feet, quite unstoppable.

I was looking at those scores, all very high scoring, without the 3 point shot, without the shot clock. Interesting.

I thought Tom Stith went up against McGill in the Holiday Festival. I thought it was the game before Ohio State.
