Utah State favored by 6.5. It's moved to -7.5. Utah State with an 86% chance to win. Pretty much everything's gotta go right to win this one. Hit your free throws, fellas...

Neutral Site - National TV - Prime time Thanksgiving game. I can see this one going down to the wire.
Around the A10 : DAYTON crushed UConn (should have beaten UNC). They are the clear cut #1 in the A10. Davidson looked good early against Arizona - but wound up getting smoked 104-71.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL - and LETS GO BONAS !!!

Once while visiting Africa, I met a group of missionaries who had formed a softball team. They called it Utah State. They taught softball to African men and had games on weekends. They all came from Orem, Utah and belonged to St. John Lateran Day Saints. They had a one year mission to do. So USU is a state university with a religious affiliation.

I just looked at the percentage for winning this game for Bona and it was 13%. I understand that the numbers crunchers are pretty good. Just a gut feeling, and I certainly could be wrong. I’m basing my thoughts only on states game with Iowa. They didn’t really play anybody else. Some thoughts from that game: Utah guards dominated scoring and rebounding. The Utah big guys had 6 rebounds ..total. Utah did not shoot well from the line. They had 18 turnovers Iowa shot poorly from the 3 point line Yes , Utah won the game. I’m hoping our guards show what they have and control the game Go Bonnies!

UTAH STATE - TOP 7
Martinez, Ian 6'3" 20.8 PPG Falslev, Mason 6'3" 15.2 PPG Gateretse, Aubin 6'11" 10.6 PPG Templin, Karson 6'8" 10.5 PPG Akanno, Dexter 6'5" 9.6 PPG Johnson, Isaac 7'0" 8.3 PPG Anderson, Tucker 6'9" 8.2 PPG
NOTES - BIG MEN are THIN. Looking for NOEL to have his way down low. CHANCE and Lajae match up well @ the 3-4 ** GUARDS do the bulk of the USU Scoring. I believe our TRIO of Melvin, Dasonte, and Jonah will man up and give them trouble. Take them out of their sets and turn them over more than their previous opponents have been able to. If we are able to stay disciplined and breakdown their zone (Surely they will hit us with a 2-3) - we will be victorious. WE don't need to be lights out from 3 - but that would be a big help.

Iowa used a zone press in first half that disrupted USU’s offense. Caused several turnovers as Iowa built a 7 pt lead. I’m sure the SBU staff noticed. The Aggies made an adjustment at halftime, and out-scored the Hawkeyes 44-32.
Also, before we played FGCU the ESPN analytics gave Bona a 34% chance of winning. How did that turn out for FGCU! 😎

Aggies coach Jerrod Calhoun grew up in the OH/PA border town of East Liverpool OH — approx 200 miles from Bonas. He did a great job of turning around the Youngstown State program before moving to USU this off-season. Calhoun says he is very familiar with Schmidt and the SBU success. From an article earlier this week in a Logan UT online newspaper ... Calhoun’s comments: “I think Mark Schmidt is one of the best coaches in the country,” Calhoun said. “They have great identity and tradition. He is one of the most underrated coaches in all of America. They (Bonnies) aren’t far from where I came. I have great admiration for coach Schmidt. They have been one of the better teams in the Atlantic 10 year in and year out. He (Schmidt) is great at identifying talent. He is pretty impressive.” “Coach (Schmidt) will play about six guys and then goes to a seventh who is a freshman that is very good,” Calhoun said. “Traditionally, he uses about six guys. We will use our depth and hopefully our guys off the bench will continue to contribute. We are going to play a lot of guys, so definitely contrasting styles for sure.” The article says Calhoun relies on lineup data. Depending on the opponent, some athletes will get more time and others less. “It all starts and ends with us on defense,” Calhoun said. “How are they guarding?” Link to the story: www.hjnews.com/sports/usu/usu-men-s-basketball-aggies-gear-up-for-two-games-in-two-days/article_890ea236-ac42-11ef-bfac-07ee53aaff22.html

Hope LAJAE and JONAH are feeling it.

I watched the end of the Gonzaga vs Indiana game on ESPN2, then the post game show, and then the post game announcers had a special guest, our Woj. Great interview, sign me up to go to St Bonaventure to play basketball. Woj was fantastic.
Woj did not travel with the team, home for Thanksgiving. He commented he rarely was home for the holiday, to be home was his promise to his family.
