I'm glad it's over, but I still think it's a crime that he even gets a penny from the settlement.

It makes me physically sick to my stomach.
That's really the only way I can describe it on a family message board.
I hope he, ah well, never mind.

THANK GOD! Now we never have to hear from him again. Did we ever settle the Gothard Lane situation?

Glad it's over. Anyone care to venture a guess as to the settlement ? I'm guessing he got 1/2 salary [$450,000] and we pay all legal fees.
Pinions, anything you can add ?

Unfortunately, I only know what everyone else has read regarding the settlement. Nothing had been filed for public view in Court and I do not expect the terms to be released by the Court.
Two observations about the settlement, however. First, the fact that this was settled and the costs are to be borne by the insurance company indicates athat the insurance company, and not SBU, were the ones deciding to settle. Insurance companies usually call the shots in litigation since they are paying the bills.
Secondly, I am not sure that this was a favorable settlement for vBK. It is early in the litigation, and my reading of the papers submitted by both sides led me to believe that vBK did not have a strong case. I may be wrong about that but that was my feeling.
Glad this one is behind us. Lane's is much more difficult, I think.

I would say you're way low on the $450k. My guess is that he at least cleared his $1 million in lost salary, plus Lew's fees; and would venture to say $2-2.5 million.

I would guess that Gothard's suit is not as complicated as JVBK's.
1. He only had one month left on his current contract when he was fired.
2. He is not claiming he was slandered by the university (as far as I have heard).
3. While JVBK can stick his head in the sand and claim that ruling on the eligibility of a student-athlete was not in his job description, Gothard cannot.

I'm tickled pink that we're moving away from this chapter, although it looks like the mysteries of Bona Basketball and the student life that surrounds it continues
