Why isn't Dave Bliss and his former staff at Baylor on this list? That shows how much thought went into comprising this list. I doubt the writer even knows JVBK parlayed his success at SBU into a gig in the NBA.

I doubt the writer even knows JVBK parlayed his success at SBU into a gig in the NBA. This shows how much you can read. Fourth paragraph: "FYI: Dave Bliss doesn't make the list. Let someone else pick the wings off that fly. " I doubt you have a fourth grade reading level.

Throw in three more former A-10 coaches (Herrick, Jarvis, and Lappas) and that really makes our league look good. (Is there anyone else from the top 10 list that I missed that also worked in the A-10?)
John Chaney's melt-down last year might simply merit an honorable mention on the list.

"Which means he's a liar ... or an incompetent. Take your pick. " This is the way I have felt all along about Jan. I am so glad they phrased it this way, although they could have added that he is a competent liar.

Could someone please enlighten me as to why the schools are punished so severely when the coaching staff etc. is found guilty of breaking rules? The coaches -even though their reputations take a hit - go on their merry way while the school is stuck with the punishments. Why should the players, students, school and fans take the punishment for several years? Everyone directly involved in rule violations should have restrictions against them, but what is the justification of punishing everyone else?

BBFan - First, the schools are the members of the NCAA, not individuals. The NCAA doesn't have the power to punish individuals for violating rules, just the schools that agreed to comply with the rules when they joined. Second, the schools are responsible for what their employees do and for making sure they know and abide by the rules - if you let the schools off the hook for what coaches do, too many schools would turn a blind eye to what goes on.

When the president goes nuts and lets a welder in school, the school should be held responsible.

(1) Harrick, (5) VBK, (6) Jarvis, (9) O'Brien and (10) Lappas.
All of whom have coached in the A10. Don't know what it means, but just found it interesting.

I do not understand why Lappas is on this list. VBK, O'Brien, Jarvis and Harrick had integrity issues. Lappas ran clean programs. As for Lappas coaching, there have been worse in the A-10. In comparison, Bob Hill and Jerry DeGregorio make Lappas look like John Wooden.
DeCarli would be a worthy nominee, he never experienced a winning record at any level of coaching (high school, Bonas or D-2 Manchester).

DeCarli last coached at Bonas 16 seasons ago, and hasn't coached in the last 15 years...in that respect, he probably is unemployable at this point.
DeCarli had 3 years to prove himself....let's compare stats from a few past coaches to see how much of an improvement (Ws) from their 1st to 3rd year.....
Ed Melvin (1947-1950) +5
Eddie Donovan (1953-1956) -1
Larry Wiese (1961-1964) +2
Jim Satalin (1973-1976) 0
Jim O'Brien (1982-1985) -6
Ron DeCarli (1986-1989) +8
Tom Chapman (1989-1992) +1
Jim Baron (1992-1995) +8
vBK Only coached two seasons
I won't list Coach Soloman, because under the conditions he took the job, I believe it would be unfair to him.
As you can see, the biggest turn arounds, came during the DeCarli and Baron eras.....interesting isn't it?
And if DeCarli had been given 6 more years as Baron was....I guess we'll never know....
I know that most of you don't think much of DeCarli as a coach, and I respect your right to think that . I believe however, that Ron had the Bonnies on the right track, and given more time, as all the other coaches were, (Excluding Chapman) that he would have done fine.
Just one man's opinion.....can't wait to hear yours.
