In your travels around the Olean-Allegany metroplex this weekend, if you happen to see some familiar faces from, say, 28, or maybe 35 years ago, you didn't just cross over into the Twilight Zone. No, that guy that looks like Billy Kalbaugh, or that other guy that looks like Essie Hollis, are just who they appear to be !
The 1970 Final Four team and the 1977 NIT Champions team will both be in town for a joint reunion starting Friday.
Chris Allan, team manager of the NIT Champions, tells me they have private dinners planned both Friday and Saturday nights, with about 98% of the two teams committed to attend with their families.
While the dinners are private, he also says that most of the guys will be playing golf at Bartlett on Saturday afternoon, after the Mens' Amateur Tournament goes out; and for those that want to rub elbows with team members, coaches, staff, etc, he's "pretty sure" they may find their way to one or more of the local watering holes after dinner both nights. Probably Angee's and The Village Green, among others.
Vinny Pezzimenti of the Times Herald has been invited to sit in on the festivities for the purpose of a feature article on the two teams and what all the members are doing now, that will appear at a later date.
The weather for the weekend looks great, so you all should have a wonderful time and I look forward to seeing many of you at one of those local "watering holes" !!
