New And Notes From Las Vegas
Reebok Big Time Tournament
Reebok Big Time Tournament
By Brian Towey Senior Reporter
Date: Jul 26, 2005
Here are some reports from one of the top club team tournaments in July.
* Kareem Brown, a 6-foot-0, 175 pound shooting guard from New London High School in New London, Connecticut, is one of the more explosive scorers coming out of the Nutmeg State in the class of 2006.
Brown, who plays with the Rhode Island Breakers, has received interest from programs like St. Bonaventure, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, St. Peter's, Central Connecticut, Sacred Heart, and Quinnipiac.
He's a guy who can score it in bunches when he gets hot, an offensive-minded player who can drill jumpers off the bounce and finds ways to put it in the hole. He'll have to give a more consistent effort on the defensive end to realize his potential.
* In the we-hadn't-seen-that-before department, how about the tip dunk that Brad Sheehan of the Albany City Rocks caught against Toronto Mission in pool play?
The 6-foot-10 center from Shaker High School in Latham, New York, has been rapidly improving, virtually before coaches' eyes. He's exuding a lot of confidence right now, and being more assertive. Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins was on hand for Sheehan's dunk.
* Corey Magee drew a group of coaches in the City Rocks' loss to Toronto Mission, among them St. Bonaventure head coach Anthony Solomon, Niagara head man Joe Mihalich, Canisius head coach Mike MacDonald, and Siena head coach Fran McCaffery,

Latrell Peeks Has Solid Summer
Date: Aug 7, 2005
Latrell Peeks had a good summer for the Westchester Hawks
Latrell Peeks, a 6-foot-6, 180-pound rising senior small forward at Trinity Pawling H.S. in Pawling, N.Y., competed this past summer with the Westchester Hawks coached by Phil Diasparra.
Peeks, a thin and perimeter minded forward who also plays for head coach Bill Casson at Trinity Pawling, had some moments this summer that attracted division one coaches.
"LaSalle, Youngstown State, Albany, and the Citadel are some of the schools interested," said Diasparra said.
Peeks, who does most of his offensive damage from beyond the three-point line, is a very interesting recruit since it's likely his body will get stronger.
A native of Harlem, he might be a player that can help a team from the wing while also playing with more confidence inside the paint a year from now.
Bill Casson recently told reporter Brian Towey: "He's very coachable. He listens to everything I tell him. "He plays the four and the three for us, but ultimately I think he'll be a wing at the next level."
Peeks attended Rice High School in New York City before transferrring to Trinity Pawling.
