:)Times Herald sports editor Chuck Pollock has won first place in sports columns for papers under-25,000 in this year’s New York State Associated Press writing contest. Pollock won for a three-column submission of pieces on the death of long-time St. Bonaventure basketball fan Larrry Chiarenza, the ousting of successful Salamanca football coach Rich Morton and a piece on the most recent controversies surrounding the Bona men’s basketball program. It’s his fifth first-place in the New York State AP contest. He previously won in 1981, ’82, ’95 and 2003. In addition Pollock has two seconds, a third and four honorable mentions in the NYS contest. This year’s winners will be honored at a banquet at the Syracuse Adams Mark Hotel on Sept. 14.
