The Nike All-America camp is designed to help prospects get a lot of exposure. A prime example of that is Brad Sheehan. After an impressive July, Sheehan stated to receive a lot of attention from major college coaches. Lately more schools have entered the derby for his signature.
Sheehan has visits set up to Georgia Tech, Syracuse, and Virginia.
A few weeks ago Sheehan had offers from Virginia, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, and Penn State. Now Xavier and St. Bonaventure have decided to offer Sheehan.
When asked if he had decided on all of his official visits, Sheehan said, "No, I just have the three scheduled to Syracuse, Virginia, and Georgia Tech. I'm not sure if I will take others, maybe to one of the A-10 schools like Xavier or St. Bonaventure, or maybe to Penn State. I took an unofficial visit to Penn State last Saturday and I had a great time."
One school that may have a slight edge for Sheehan is the Syracuse Orange. Syracuse is close to home, and Sheehan has always been a fan of the Orange. Despite the closeness to his home, Sheehan says that it will not be a major factor in his decision, "I like that they (Syracuse) are close, but it is not really something that I am going to base my decision on."
Besides the Orange, the Musketeers of Xavier are a team that Sheehan has a lot of interest in. When asked what about the Musketeer program intrigued him, Sheehan said, "They are a winning program. Also I could come in and get immediate playing time. They have also had a winning tradition in the (NCAA) tourney."
When Sheehan is on his official visits, he is just going to be looking for a comfort level. He wants to have a good level of comfort with not only the coaching staff, but the campus in general. Sheehan is also a good student, and academics will play an extremely important role in his decision.
The visits will also be important because Sheehan intends to make his final decision only days after he completes his official visits. He wants to concentrate on his senior basketball season, and not have the distraction of recruiting going on during the season. At this point, he expects to have his decision made by the end of October.
When asked about his strengths on the floor, Sheehan said, "I can shoot the 15-16 foot jumper. Also, I run the floor real well, and I have a pretty good back to the basket game. I also block shots."
During his senior season, Sheehan feels he needs to work on his strength. He sometimes feels that he doesn't hold his ground very well on the defensive end. With improved strength, not only will he improve his defense down low, but he will also improve his rebounding.
Academically, Sheehan hopes to major in either business or marketing. All of the schools he is looking at have the academic programs that he is looking for. Penn State and Virginia, especially, stand out to him from an academic perspective.
