ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Some of the brightest stars in the storied history of St. Bonaventure's men's basketball program will return to campus for a "Legends Celebration" on Oct. 15 at the Reilly Center.
The event, which will feature an alumni game starting at 7 p.m., will coincide with the start of basketball practice for the current Bonnies team.
Alumni from across four decades of St. Bonaventure basketball are scheduled attend the event including the Stith brothers, Sam `60 and Tom `61, all-time coaching wins leader and former Athletics Director Larry Wiese '58, Fred Crawford '64, Greg Gary '71, Paul Hoffman '72, Matt Gantt '72, Earl Belcher '81, Mark Jones '83, Barry Mungar '86, Shandue McNeill '97, and David Messiah Capers '00 and Tim Winn '00 from the 2000 NCAA Tournament team (see a complete list of alumni commitments below). The jerseys of Tom Stith (#42), Sam Stith (22) and Crawford (54) are all retired.

Fred Handler and Bob Sassone, who both were assistant coaches on the 1970 Final Four team, will coach one of the alumni teams while Weise will coach the other. Don McLean, the former radio voice of the Bonnies, will also participate.
The Legends Celebration will begin at 5:00 with a variety of interactive events including autograph sessions with the Bonnies alumni and current players, children's games, food and soft drinks. Current and former players will also participate in promotions with fans including a parent-child contest.
"We think the Legends Celebration is something that will really appeal to many generations of Bonnies fans," said St. Bonaventure men's basketball coach Anthony Solomon, who is entering his third season at the helm of the Bonnies program. "Given the tradition of St. Bonaventure, this will be an exciting way to start the basketball season. It will be a chance for fans to meet many of the former stars as well as meet our current players all in one night."
There will not be any admission to the Legends Celebration, but fans will be asked for a donation at the door. All donations will go to the Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
"The fact that this event will directly benefit a local, charitable organization only makes it better," Solomon said.
