Junior-college center commits to Duquesne Friday, September 30, 2005
By Phil Axelrod, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Hernol Hall, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound center who is one of the mostly highly touted junior-college basketball player in the country, made a verbal commitment to Duquesne University.
Hall and Duquesne's two other verbal commitments, Bishop Canevin's 6-6 Antonio diMaria and Shenango's 6-2 Steve McNees, can't sign a binding national letter of intent until early November.
Duquesne coach Danny Nee, who isn't permitted to discuss recruits until they've signed, has two more scholarships to offer.
Hall, a native of Limon, Costa Rica, averaged 10.3 points, 8 rebounds a game last season and shot 60 percent from the field as a freshman at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville. He will have two years of eligibility at Duquesne. Lon Morris was 25-4 last season and ranked No. 10 in the final regular-season NJCAA Division I poll.
Hall, who made his official visit to Duquesne's campus last week, is rated the top junior-college center in the country in Lindy's College Basketball Magazine. He is first-team preseason All-American by JucoJunction.com and is fourth team All-junior college in Street & Smith's 2005-06 College Basketball magazine.
