Well, EXCUUUUUUSE ME !
Maybe I got it RIGHT, and the Times Herald got it wrong. They average 4 or 5 retractions and printed apologies every day in the paper !
The gist of what I posted was factual - there was an incident on campus, police were called in, and charges were pressed. Sorry I didn't get it exactly fucking right for you !

If the TH was reporting from the police report, then the police report would also have to be wrong, wouldn't it?

Smith and Dunston WERE the other 2 involved- they came to Dave Fox's defense.
There is a blatant effort among a few students to bring the basketball team down, because they walk around like they are Gods, and none of the rules apply to them.
It's saturday again, and you can bet that sometime tonight, a basketball player will be in a bar in Allegany, and some other student will try to instigate something.
Everyone wants to be "the one" that destroys the basketball team because of the players' "holier-than-thou" attitudes.
You ain't seen nothing yet, this is going to get a whole lot uglier before it gets better. I hate to see it too, but the bad blood exists.

ripreilly you really don't have a clue do you? I apologize if I misinterpret your post but most of the basketball players I know do not walk around like gods and yes I do know the majority. You obviously seem to have some problem with the team. Don't make judgements based on hearsay. I do know what happend and it is being blown out of proportion. Relax, don't pass judgement and everything will revert back to normalcy.

These basketball players need to start getting a grip on there lifes and realize that there are people who are looking up to them and they can't be getting involved with the police every weekend. They need to grow up and start acting right. Fans are tying to let the past behind them witht he scandal and the record but when you have this in the future, what is there to look forward? HALF THE TEAM IN JAIL!

Kudos to those who shed light on this incident. As a journalism major, I'm always pleased to see those with a vested interest in the University share news with the rest of the community - thank you for being the catalysts for change.
With that said, much of what I've read is factual. There are a few clarifications I must make, however. First of all, Serrano is not an RA. He lives off-campus (the purpose of an RA is to monitor dormitories). This is not the first time the Bronx native has been in trouble - he was suspended for an entire semester last year after dangling a student over a stairway balcony in Devereaux Hall. My question is why did we let him come back?
Secondly, Serrano entered the scence within a few days after the arrests of Smith and Carter. One thing: It was actually one of Serrano's friends who first punched Greg Lewis in front of the OP. The altercation with Lewis occurred after the aforementioned friend of Serrano's questioned Relph's treatment of his girlfriend. A group of basketball players told this individual to "mind his own business." That's when this student punched Lewis. He believed domestic assault is everybody's business. All Hell broke loose soon afterward. Police were called, and Smith apparently lost his cool realizing the enormity of the situation. I am told he broke a window of an SUV. Relph had already left, however.
The next day, Serrano had an altercation (to say the least) with the first basketball player he saw. Instead of walking around campus searching for Relph, the 400-pound, 23-year old sucker punched this individual in front of Plassman Hall. George Solan ended his academic career roughly an hour later. He also brought the APD to campus.
Bottom line: As a student, it is disheartening to hear about basketball players being arrested on a monthly basis. I think the players are treated unfairly in a sense, but the treatment is a direct correlation of them being members of a Division-1 basketball team. This membership places these twelve young men on pedestals. They're not complaining about their celebrity personalities, but neither are we when we see St. Bona on the ticker tape of ESPN. But that's another issue and another day.
The incident with Serrano is finished, but we can't (as one poster wrote) have the coaching staff monitor them Thurs-Sat. The reality of the matter is we must allow these student athletes to live, and in doing so, allow them to make mistakes. We can only hold them accountable for their actions after they are found to be at fault. Look at how much time was spent mulling over the dwelling for the baseball team; I have yet to hear anything negative come from residents about noise or drunken ruckus. The solution is to find athletes with moral integrity. We need to develop this idea further than rhetoric.
If I can make one constructive criticism: I believe many of the posters don't understand student life in the 21st century. I'm not defending the fellow 2200 undergraduates that also call Bonaventure their home this year, but I think the St. Bonaventure changes with each generation. Some have protested wars. Some challenged the Church and its doctrine. Others liked to smoke pot. This generation at SBU, however, likes to mingle in Allegany and drink excessive amounts of alcohol at the local bars. The basketball team is an example of that. Let's also recognize things could be worse.

Thanks for your insight!
It is disturbing to read about the extreme actions of some members of the student body. Your right, times have changed!
Question, I didn't understand your meaning of..... "George Solan ended his academic career roughly an hour later. He also brought the APD to campus."
Can you shed some insight into this? who is he? etc...
Hopefully things are back to normal there on campus (not sure that was the right wording) Hopefully things are calmed down there on campus!

George Solan, Vice President for Student Life.
For those of the half century mark..it was Sally Luna in our days and later Stax McCarthy.

Thank you traptor6 for the first readable and credible sounding account of what happened. Your reporting did a good job of tying together the half facts and rumors that have been posted previously to bring some logic to it all.
I also think your conclusions are fair and reasonable, but don't think this is the first Bona generation to enjoy spending time in Allegany.

Thanks for the update, traptor.
Is my namesake (Dave Fox) OK ?
And is this Serrano any relation to Pedro Serrano, of Cleveland Indians fame ?
Don't mess with Jo-Bu !
