Attention college coaches scouring the DFW area for JC talent - you might want to drop by Brookhaven College in Farmers Branch. Antonio Judie might not have played last season, but the 6-foot-5 guard/forward originally from Terrell is someone who might just catch your eye. Judie sat out last season to concentrate on academics, but will hit the court again in 2005-06 - and could very well earn a Division I scholarship before the season even starts. TexasHoops.com has all the details on this sleeper prospect.
"Two years ago, Antonio averaged about nine points a game, but I sat him last year so he could work on graduating," said Brookhaven head coach Kevin Hurst. "I knew he had the talent, so I wanted to hold him out to make sure he would graduate on time."
The strategy has paid off for Judie as he's all set to get his associates degree in May. But Judie is more than just a prospect getting a diploma. He has some versatile skills that Hurst believes merits Division I attention. "He's 6-foot-4 and a half and can run the one, the two, or the three," Hurst said. "He sees the floor like a point guard, shoots it like a two guard, and can post up like a three. He's definitely a Division I player."
A couple of schools have gotten wind of Judie and will be flying into DFW to get a look at him the next few weeks. If things move rapidly enough, Judie could get snapped up in the fall. "St. Bonaventure and Arkansas State both want to come in and watch him," Hurst said. "No offers yet, but if he stays healthy he'll get them. He is probably the best or second best player in our league."
