The recruitment of one of upstate New York's top post prospects has evolved into a good, old-fashioned dog fight.
Cory Magee, the lunch pail-carrying 6-foot-7 1/2 power forward out of Fairport High School in the Rochester area, is being pursued hotly by a number of the state's Division I programs, from Niagara Falls to Albany. He'll take what will likely be his final official visit this weekend.
"I'm taking an official visit to St. Bonaventure this weekend," said Magee. "The visits have been great. First I visited Siena, then Niagara, and then Canisius. I could also take a visit to James Madison, but I doubt I will."
The four New York programs comprise Magee's top choices. With each official visit, his decision has gotten that much more difficult.
"After the Siena visit, I could have committed, it went so well," said Magee. "I liked Canisius a lot because I'm friends with one of the players there, Kevin Downey. Siena was a great visit, and so was Niagara. It's going to be a tough choice."
Cory is aiming to have things figured out in the next couple of weeks.
"I think I'll probably decide by November 1st," said Magee. "No later than that."
Magee offered a rugged post presence playing with the Albany City Rocks this summer. He's a max effort guy who will board for you and is not afraid to get his hands dirty. He put in a lot of work to improve his body and strength between his junior and senior years.
A number of MAAC programs, as well as St. Bonaventure, shadowed Cory closely throughout the summer. Soon enough, they'll find out his pick.
