Ladderman you were correct about Fr. Toal who taught at St Francis Prep in Brooklyn where O'B went to school.
Actually the committe chose Pete Gillen from ND at the time. It was in headlines in the OTH...GILLEN TO COACH BONNIES. Honest!!! Heres the skinny as they say in black and White movies. Toal was on the committee but outvoted. Gillen went back to ND and probably realized his BOSS would be Toal so he bailed out. He probably called back to Brooklyn where he coached at Nazareth, was told the connection between O'B and his new boss. O'B's signing will be covered in chronological order later.
By the way it was Paul Owens who led the Phillies to the World Series championship in 1980. He graduated with ED D. in 1950
I left out some football players from Bonnies who were in the NFL. Frank Lo Vuolo from Binghamton went to the Giants. George Niksic, George Hays went to Pittsburgh with Jack Butler. Jack was a all pro in the NFL as a line backer. He began BLESTO V an NFL scouting service which he still runs.
On to Donovan in the next History.
