Smith, Collins named to preseason All-Conference teams

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - St. Bonaventure seniors Ahmad Smith (Alexandria, Va./O'Connell) and Stefanie Collins (Montour Falls, N.Y./Odessa-Montour) were both named to Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference men's and women's basketball teams, announced today at the A-10 annual Media Day at the Franklin Wyndham Plaza hotel in Philadelphia.

Smith was named to the second team, while Collins was selected to the first team in a voting by the Atlantic 10 head coaches and members of the media.

Smith was a third team All-Conference selection last season when he averaged 14.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. The 6-foot-5 guard was the only A-10 player who ranked in the top 10 in the conference in scoring (8th), rebounding (10th) and assists (9th).

Last season, Collins also was named to the third team All-Conference after averaging 13.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Collins led the A-10 in three-pointers made per game (2.8) and ranked 10th in steals (1.7).

Congrats to Ahmad. I've enjoyed watching his game progress since I watched him play at O'Connell HS.

I remember Tom Strickler (Eastern Basketball) stating Ahmad was the best complimentary player he'd seen in the DC area in some time.
