Its such a great thing for us Bonaventure fans to be able to listen to the radio show. Coach does a great job sharing his thoughts with the program and you can definitely sense through his words that he loves Bonaventure. He said we will know by Thursday if we are signing 3 guys this fall, let's hope they land another big man in the fall.

For those who missed the show here are the essential points made by Coach: * The first day Bona was allowed to conduct a recruiting visit Coach & Brannen took a 6am flight to Cincy. * Tyler would be back this year but no indication on when * The area he has identified as # 1 area to improve is rebounding * I got the feeling that coach is depending upon Paul the most as the inside presence for D, rebounding and some offense * He characterized AJ & Tyler Benson as mature beyond their years with wide wing spans to provide perimeter D * Pointed out AJs athleticism as adding defensive pressure * Ivan had his knee scoped early this fall & this has obviously slowed his development * David Fox is developing defensive mindset & offensive moves * Terron has great speed in pushing the ball on offense & creates defensive problems due to his quickness. “He’s a pest from line to line.” * Ahmad will be a marked man but if he is stopped scoring he contributes in so many other ways (rebounding, steals, assist turnover ratio, leadership) * Patrick was able to play this summer for the first time & it shows in the practices * They give a preseason award & Wade won it last preseason & again this preseason * When asked about a starting five, to no surprise he would not divulge who they might be * Fox asked about 3 ships & coach confirmed there were 3 but maybe only 2 will be filled & we will hear on Thursday. * The scrimmage against UB was a morning & afternoon scrimmage (2 a day workout). Spoke about the competitive level of both teams but no score given. Indicated that our board play is high priority & needs work. * Lee has “tons of ability.” More concerned in him gaining strength rather than weight. “If his light-bulb goes on he will be someone to be remembered in Bona basketball.” * No mention was made of Ahmad missing any time.

Pleasant surprise to hear the accolades regarding Tyler Benson. Maybe we found the consistent outside shooter we so badly need. Let's hope he's got some Jerry West or Jason Williams in his West Virginia blood (and not Myron Ray).
It sounds like the extra year of prep school has helped AJ and Tyler come in a little more mature than the average freshman players.

A very positive show with lots of good information.
I liked the things Coach mentioned about the importance of the UB-scrimmage especially since that program is in a successful period, sounds like it was a good experience & benchmark for the players & Staff.
Many good/positive things about the 3-seniors, the 2-frosh, Diggs & MLee.
You can hear the concern about the 3-big guys and the importance that there interior defense and rebounding will be to the season. It sounds like whether we are below or above the 10-win mark will depend on them.
There was no or little mention of ICarson, RHannah and the walkon big guy...Jeff Foote.....does anyone have some insight into them?
The prospect of another fall period signing is also very exciting, especially if it is a low post player with a similiar ranking as JMorris & JWilliams.
Is there any specualtion or insight on who we have in the cross hairs? Alot of our early targets from the recruiting websites are off the board (committed).
One of the posters here really likes;
PF - Adam Walker (Northfield Mount Hermon School) Northfield, MA 6-7/195
I like to see someone like;
PF - Horace Dixon (Fork Union Military Academy) Fork Union, VA 6-8/190
Again, there is plenty of reasons to be excited & positive about the program & season! I personally think the journey back to respectablity is interesting & fun....
I'd like to increase the goal from 10-wins to 12! based on energy, passion, the upgrade in talent, etc.....
GO BONNIES!!

Good report wgt, but it was actually the poster known as JAC that asked the recruiting question.
And it was a great crowd. When Milo (owner of The Village Green) posed the question to me last August about taking the radio show, I said the crowds at Randy's were usually about 25 or 30 strong, but he could expect to get 30 or 40 at least in his place. His eyes lit up and he said that would be great, but kind of doubted he would get that many people for the show.
I counted 56 last night, it was standing room only, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Everyone in attendance got a free media guide, and they gave away bobbleheads and t-shirts at the end, along with a trivia contest (Who did coach register his first win against ?)
There will be a different question each week, and whoever has the most correct answers at the end of the season gets 2 tickets to the A-10 playoffs !
Only kink were some minor sound problems - Gary had his own speakers hooked up in the first half of the show, and the sound was crystal clear. But they turned on the radio for all the fans in the bar during the second half, and it created some distortion and feedback and you could not distinguish what was being said. The problem will be corrected by next week I'm promised.
Plan on attending next Monday at 7:30, I guarantee you will enjoy the show.

Fox.. when I heard that John was at the mic I assumed it was you. Good question JAC, which got a response to expect 2 announcements on Thursday with the third ship a maybe. Pleased to hear about the good turnout at what should be a far better venue. The trivia questions, T shirts & media guides is a nice way to foster community interest and reward die hard fans. I hope that bobblehead was my WOLF. The march forward has lots of obstacles and a supportive fan base will help the journey.
