I had no issue with MV's article at the time and still don't after re-reading it again here. The comments about the ring and diploma were symbolism and expressed the outrage we all felt about the shame brought to our alma mater by a few bums. If Mike didn't want people to know about him being an alum, he would not have written the article at all. By doing so, he used the pen to express the pain. Go Bona's. Beat the Hawks. That's where you are wrong and MV even stated why he wrote the article. He covered other scandals and felt he couldn't ignore this one just because it was in his own backyard. Therefore, in his eyes, he had no choice in the matter. I applaud him for that. The only symbolism I can think of regarding taking off his class ring was that he was ashamed to be a Bonnie. He took the cowardly way out, just like the players who quit on the season. MV could've written an article that crucified Wick and the administration while still protecting the name of the university. He chose not to, and instead wrote an article he felt obligated to write and in doing so, he acknowledged that he turned his back on the school at its darkest hour. And that's where YOU are wrong. You can have your view and I'll have mine.

Is there any room at all for differences of opinion? Personally, I thought MV original article communicated the emotional impact the scandal had on Mike (and most of us) b/c Bona's is such a great place and means so much to him At the same time he also directed his anger at the two individuals responssible for it, and personnally, that gave me the feeling he was communicating they are not what SBU really is all about.
I agree taking off a class ring is more symbolic than "going into hiding". How many peole really notice a class ring? Mike declared his affiliation for SBU more more publicly by writing the article.
Even if you wouldn't take off your class ring, can't be cope differently?
Mike, we've never met but thanks for responding to some of the noise on the board.

I guess the best analogy is this... how many Giants fans were walking around decked out in Giant jersey's hats etc... on Monday morning. I presume you weren't all that willing to reveal your SAT scores back in the day.

I am not sure what that means, but I was disgraced with my alma mater at the time. When a guy who gets into the university has a j.c. certificate not degree its pretty embarrassing to say yeah that's where i got my diploma from.

BO2...I have a question for you on a very different subject. I know you & the Bingo faithful traveled in the snow last Saturday to the Dukes game. Did you observe some of the bench issues that were mentioned by one or two posters that also were in attendance?

I heard they came close to escorting out Ray Blackburn's posse from the 'comp' section next to the tunnel. Guess they were getting pretty boisterous and obnoxious whenever Blackburn went to the bench.
Several people at the scorer's table and those that sit behind the bench heard some of the dialogue, and they say it was pretty graphic and colorful, mostly aimed at Schmidt.
I sat behind the bench, a ways up in the reds, and did notice quite a bit of what might be considered "confrontations" between Schmidt and Eleby, Thomas, and Blackburn whenever they were pulled from the game.
Schmidt just seemed to be "coaching" them on their mistakes, but it looked pretty ugly, at least from behind.
Maybe someone that sat across from the bench can add their opinion on what went on. They probably saw it better.

Yeah i heard someone talking trash about Schmidt at halftime. We weren't in the best position to hear much, but I could see a few I assume family members who were upset.
Ray played absolutely awful that day and whatever Schmidt said to him was well warranted. He is hot and cold when it comes to play D-1 level b-ball as opposed to street ball with no sense of a set offense.

Sitting with the Bingo alums that day across fromt he Bona bench you could see Schmidt constantly trying to coach Blackburn and some very unhappy bystanders up above Schmidt was just doing his job.
