I hope to hell I'm proven wrong, but recent events make me nervous - the school's name was nearly ruined two years ago - at best, we were a joke nationally. Still, the new admin's response to the crisis was positive. But since then, Boggins gets bounced, then the troubles with Relph and Williams, and now someone who was rejected by URI? Do we really have lower standards than URI? Taken one at a time, I suppose each can be explained away - but in combo it appears bad - and appearances count - read Harrington's reply to DB's email - that's how the media looks at us and how they will report. We crossed a line back then - clearly placing hoops over academics. Are we still doing that? Doesn't it look like we are when these things keep piling up? I don't like writing this - I'd much prefer to be excited about this coming year - but I think these questions have to be asked.

I think the deal with Lex and Rhode Island is a little confusing. They're "saying" they dropped him because they didn't think he could qualify, but I think the truth is they dropped him because when Rob Lanier was fired from Siena and all of a sudden the 6'11" stud that was going to go to Siena was released from his LOI, Rhody jumped on the kid and is trying to get him to Rhode Island. They didn't have any scholarships to give though, unless something opened up, and VOILA !, they withdrew their offer to Lex and are trying to cover it with this story that Lex was goging to be ineligible.
He worked hard and got his GED; then went to CCSF and has worked hard there for 2 years and (I don't know what his grades are there) but they must be sufficient enough with all the core course requirements or we would not even be considering him.
I trust that SBU will dot all the I's and cross all the T's this time and you can bet they will cover every base to make sure he IS going to be eligible.
And I don't mind "stealing" a player from Rhode Island, especially after all that SBU recruiting data "miracously disappeared" from the basketball offices on the departure of the staff before VBK. Even though it was an assistant that "walked" out with it, we all know who was behind it.
