DaveJohn's post about Corey Chandler visiting is gone. Hopefully someone can confirm seeing Corey on campus. Here is a picture: Rivals ranked Corey Chandler at 65 (link at bottom) and was a 4 star recruit. Mario Boggans is the only player signed by the Bonnies that had a higher ranking from Rivals. Corey is a big time talent and would obviously be worth waiting a year for him. He averaged 11.9 points a game as a freshman, which made him the 2nd leading scorer on the team. He made the Big East All Rookie team. This year he lost playing time to McDonald All-American Mike Rosario. Google search showed he is leaving Rutgers. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=40829

Well, Rutgers fans might not know what they're talking about...

Bonafan08 I'm curious how Bonaventure name was brought up in the thread? Have to be a subscriber to read the Rival message board. Find it interesting to see a thread titled "Chandler to St. Bonaventure?" on the Rutgers Scout message board and again you have to be a subscriber to read message board. Would be great to have subscribers of Rivals and Scout share with us. mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=183&f=2835

Could be he's staying at Rutgers, but if he is at Bonas visiting this weekend I don't know how anyone could be very sure about that. Also, somewhere in the ether today I read a story about Rutgers trying to get a blue chip juco point guard from Fla. on campus for a visit this weekend. Either they think Corey is leaving or they're going to have a crowd at his position.
Chandler was big-time coming out of high school 2 years ago. (consensus top 10-15 point guard in the country, top 100 player) Had a nice freshman year at Rutgers but faded pretty badly this season. I don't think the kid suddenly forgot how to play basketball. Rutgers was a bit of a mess this year. A lot of losing and a lot of second guessing about the coach, Fred Hill. Had a reputation for being a great recruiter, esp in Jersey, but hasn't been able to put it together as a head coach. Looks like Chandler just lost his mojo this season. It'd be tough to wait a year for him, but certainly worth it. I'm starting to think it's going to be an interesting spring.

When I saw the date, I was confused since there has been talk/reports since then about Mr. Chandler transferring as I read that blog almost daily. When I went to that blog it was the 2nd blog entry after Nova's win and dated March 28th ...... so have to assume that it is accurate. He's a great player so it was a nice thought though.

You are correct B02, yesterday's blog quote from Corey is identical to the quote he gave on March 5th (link to March 5th quote at bottom). It is the same quote being reported 3 weeks later. Think about it, Corey is upset about his playing time and Coach Hill smooth things over. Corey next day declares he is happy at Rutgers and only venting after a tough loss with only 5 minutes of PT. Very next game (2 days later) Corey play 10 minutes. Corey goes from 2nd leading scorer on the team and being on the All Big East Rookie team to playing 5 and then 10 minutes at the end of the season. It is more of a coincidence to see both Rutgers' Rivals and Scout boards break out news about Corey possibly transferring to the Bonnies in the same week. With 24 replies on the Scout board (4th most on their current board) it has become one of their most talk about topics. www.nj.com/rutgersbasketball/index.ssf/2009/03/scratch_that_reverse_it_corey.htmlsports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=36371

It looks like a long shot but can you imagine Chandler and Nicholson playing together for their last two years.

Of course this is pure speculation, but, again, assuming Corey was on campus this weekend, Coach Hill "smoothing things over" with Corey may mean a mutual understanding that it is not good for either the school or player for the player to start voicing his intent to transfer, or displeasure with the program/ losing, etc. at all, but especially before the season is over. Coaches are out recruiting and stories start popping up that players are unhappy at the school = not good. So the coach says o.k., sit tight until the season is over and be a good soldier. In the spring when you start looking for your new school, they'll know you weren't a malcontent and I'll make sure you get an unconditional release so you can go any school you want. It works the other way too. If a school is going to tell a kid his scholarship won't be renewed the next year, it will be kept quiet so the kid doesn't have to walk around campus as a 'lame duck' thru all of March and April.

Corey Chandler is not a point guard, at least he couldn't do it in the Big East. Whether RU lands James Beatty or not shouldn't have any bearing on whether Chandler leaves. The real problem is that he's stuck behind Mike Rosario and will most likely come off the bench unless Hill wants to go with 3 guards.
